SMS 620 Camaro Unveiled and Auctioned

13 Attachment(s)
I think it's kindof disappointing that they didn't really do any unique bodywork other than the (ugly) hood.

The front is stock, which doesn't look ANYTHING like their rendering.

Isn't that a Stillen splitter?

When Steve Saleen launched his new company, SMS Supercars, back in 2008, he announced that he would be expanding his portfolio of vehicles to include the muscle car offerings from Chevrolet and Dodge. First up was the 570 and 570X Challenger, followed soon after by the 302 Mustang.

Now, Steve Saleen's muscle car trifecta is finally complete, as SMS officially unveiled the 620 Camaro at Barrett-Jackson this week. The car maintains the styling cues featured on both the Challenger and Mustang with an aggressive front splitter, side skirts, rear diffuser, butterfly hood and chrome 20-inch wheels. Inside is a custom leather interior, and under the hood, the 6.2-liter V8 has been supercharged to 620 horsepower and 570 pound-feet torque.

In addition to unveiling the car at Barrett-Jackson this week, SMS actually auctioned off the first production example last night. This particular car was also a special "Bondurant Edition" in honor of Steve Saleen's former racing teammate, Bob Bondurant, and the two decided to donate the proceeds from the sale to two charities: Cox Charities and the Make A Wish Foundation of Arizona.

So, how did the car do? Bidding for the SMS 620 Camaro eventually reached the $100,000 mark, meaning the two charities will be getting a significant donation and the lucky new owner just got a nice tax write-off. Did we mention a Bondurant three-day performance driving school is included with the car? - http://www.autoblog.com/2012/01/20/s...t-example-for/

Looks like the whole stillen body kit. Cool rims though... I wish they would have made that bumper!

looks like they stuck buick ports in the hood.i like the dodge he did.

626ortiz 01-20-2012 07:59 PM

yea best thing i like is the side skirts..

hightower 01-20-2012 08:41 PM

I'd expect more. :iono:

Cool nonetheless, but it'd be nice if they did more...

Revo1 01-21-2012 01:35 PM

Side skirts and butterfly vents in the hood are cool... :iono:

Wow, I would have thought that this car would have "popped" a little more. I am not really that impresses. Especially for $100,000

urr2slo 01-21-2012 02:04 PM

I'm at B/J for the week, seen it, not impressed. Hennessy, SLP, Callaway are way nicer more complete offerings. It looks like a lot of aftermarket parts just bolted on, nothing unique to it except the hood (yuk), wheels (eh), and seat covers (nice). The brake upgrade is to the fronts only, I was expecting more I guess. I'm just wondering what it will actually sell for to the public. I think SMS should go back to the drawing board if they want to complete with the big tuners out there.

IMHO, it wouldnt matter how cool the car was, Id dislike it on principal. All Saleen could do was badmouth the Camaro before the '10s hit production.

No RS package?

union894 01-21-2012 02:26 PM

not a big deal to me other than 2 charities got a nice donation which I think is great.

PercyJWellingtonIII 01-21-2012 02:28 PM

I certainly like this Much better than the ugly ZL1. The ZL1 Fogligts are sharp edgy and hideous. There are no sharp lines on the car so why add them there. The lower part of the front grill also is to chopped up and doesn't flow. Its just plain ugly. The hood is also very unsightly...enough already with the carbon fiber look....we all know it light weight to so slap some paint on it. We don't need to see the grain in the carbon fiber because there is nothing pretty about it. Given the option of buying this or a ZL1 guess where I will put my money.

boltmark 01-21-2012 02:45 PM

If you look at a set of street scene GFX they look like those on this car.

cpages2 01-21-2012 02:56 PM

always wondered this. When they sign the dash how do you keep in clean? Seems like a few wipes of interior cleaner and that is gone.

BrandonB956 01-21-2012 03:19 PM

100,000 for a 1 SS
. no gauges , cloth inserts .
I also don't think I see any halos/ hids.

Very ehh...

Yes

ThaCamaroKid 01-21-2012 04:29 PM

It looks nice except I dont like the interior, but is it really worth 100 G's? I dont think so... :iono:

ThaCamaroKid 01-21-2012 04:31 PM

to add the the above however I do like the rims... still not worth 100 G's though :bs:

Falundir 01-21-2012 04:40 PM

I think the hood would look great in a different color. However they completely failed to meet the rendering, which is what kills it for me. Love the rendering, hate the car.

TaylorRyanSS 01-21-2012 04:40 PM

Really... this does not look anything like I had expected. It looks like they got lazy and slapped a bunch of other products on it. Wheres the front bumper like in the rendering? Not what I expected from Saleen.
