Road and Track: ZL1 10 Spoke Wheels are 1.8 lbs lighter.

According to the GTR vs. ZL1 article.

Ya, I saw that too.

radz28 02-09-2012 09:35 AM

+2. I'm waiting for an announcement from GM though. Everything I'm keeping in the FAQ is from GM. I'm loving the little tidbits the reviewers are adding though. I'd just like an official feature list from GM so I know it's in stone :D

1.8lbs lighter than what?

Than the optional chunkies. It sounds like the chunkies are 20-some-odd pounds lighter than SS wheels, so the standard ZL1 wheels are almost 8-pounds lighter than the optional ZL1 wheels.

Interesting, taking that difference, plus my weight loss todate, I will be 123 + - pounds lighter when on the track :sm0: :sm0:

Shurenuff 02-09-2012 11:15 AM

Is it 1.8 per wheel or for all 4 of them combined? If per wheel, that's pretty significant.

It says per wheel.

GearheadSS 02-09-2012 01:09 PM

Well that's good. I think they're the best looking wheel anyway.

toilets 02-09-2012 01:18 PM

Wait, what? So 7.2 pounds lighter than the optional wheel? Wonder if the curb weight is using the optional wheel and sunroof? 2 of which are not options on my car

slick rick 02-09-2012 01:22 PM

So who is selling their 10 spoke wheels?

Is that 1.8 pound wheel difference stated in the print article or in the web article? I didn't see it in the article on the web.

It is in a photo caption in the print version.

Mr. Wyndham 02-09-2012 08:53 PM

Well, this is good news! :D

IcePick06 02-09-2012 11:07 PM

that's great info...I hope GM clarifies this cuz they made it sound like both ZL1 wheels were the same weight. Anyway, Black SSX wheels look WAAAAY better anyway :D

I thought that was 20ish for the wheel & tire combo, not just the wheels themselves. Now, I have no clue how much weight can be saved in tires (or perhaps they're actually a little heavier, since they're wider) and they're the same regardless of what ZL1 wheel is on the car ... so ... umm ... what was my point going to be again?

Oh well ... carry on

Weight of the tires is actually less. :)

I've always wanted a set of the black 10 spoke ZL1 wheels for my SS. Once they are more available (and hopefully with a decent price), I will buy a set.

Scarrzz 02-10-2012 10:40 PM

.

This is my sad face. I was hot for the five spoke.

To me they've always looked lighter than the 5 spokes and it would make sense that most all of the test cars are wearing the 10 spokes if indeed they are lighter. The 5 spokes are likely more expensive because they cost more to finish. They provide a certain look that people are willing to pay for just like the exposed weave hood and that's why there is an option.
