DIY Pinstripe the outer edge of your Wheels

5 Attachment(s)
Theres not much to this DIY, but I didnt even know it could be done with vinyl till I looked it up.

- The pinstriping comes in pre-curved vinyl strips, and it takes 4-5 strips per wheel (depending on who you buy from).

- As with applying vinyl to anything, clean first with soap and water, then clean with alcohol. Be sure that its clean! Wheels are very dirty, and vinyl will not to stick to a surface with tire shine left on it.

- When applying the vinyl you can put each piece edge to edge, or overlap them.

- Be sure to let a little of the strip go over the outer edge, so you can fold it over and make sure none of silver shows thru on the outer edge.

- The strips are curved, but you still have to guide it on there using one hand to guide it and the other hand to lay it down.

- I also did all four top halves of my rims at once, then rolled the car forward and did the other halves. You dont want to have the vinyl hitting the ground when you are doing the bottom, you want a clear view, so roll the wheel so what you're doing is always on top!

- They come in multiple sizes, but the common thickness for our rims seems to be 5mm-7mm. Mine are 6.5mm I think.

Bought my stripes from here: http://vehicleartz.com/presta/8-wheel-rim-stripes , just select 20in rims and pick your color and size (6.5mm is perfect IMO). The set comes with a few extra strips in case you mess up.
--They are shipped in a tube, so its best to lay them flat with a book on them or something to get them flat again so they are easy to work with.

But you can also purchase from this ebay seller, others have used him and seems to have some different options: http://stores.ebay.com/StripesGraphicsNdecals . I did not use him because I wanted a dark red, and he doesnt offer it.

Good luck

That sucks, one of my rims had what could only be a rock chip on the outside (cause Ive only had the car a week and know I havent run into anything) and the pinstripe went over it fine.

If you have painted rims, you can actually touch up and repair just like normal paint.

I washed the car this weekend, and inspected them, all are still there and intact, at the edges and the seams.

They are the same as putting vinyl on your brake calipers or over a bowtie. Only thing that really kills vinyl is sunlight, and on your rims they wont be seeing as much as the rest of the car.

Im sure they will stay in good shape for a while. But they were also 8$ and took about 20-30 mins total to install.

Other members have used the same method and they held up for a long time

Just make sure its really really clean, and then clean again with alcohol

No self respecting Camaro owner uses an automatic car wash, or anyone who cares about their car for that matter!

You'll need to replace them when you change tires ... I had them on my car in Australia ... Looked great until they were destroyed by new tire fitting. I even had it done on a run flat fitting machine ... But still tore them in places.

Just got these on and I love it!! My camaro is all black with small accents of red and these look great!! Match the calipers perfectly. I can't wait to get her off jack stands and on the road. Next upgrade will be drilled and slotted rotors.

Thanks OP! I ordered mine a while back, but barely installed them this past weekend. I ordered "Dark Orange" because online it looked like it would best match Inferno Orange Metallic. On the wheels, the stripes look a little more orange than I wanted them to be, they but still look great with the overall theme of my car. When I replace my tires, I will order "Red" ones to see if they're a better match.

No problem. Enjoy, makes a big difference!

Goo 06-20-2013 05:27 PM

Already have some but I think this is better... and wider.

Plus, I got the reflective red so it should be cool at night.

do any of you guys know if the stripes will work with the 10 spoke zl1 rims because it has the lip that is connected to every two spokes

Id say buy a set and try. I think it will, you just have to be careful and work the vinyl into the hump each time you get to it.

You actually have like three options for places to put them, you can go on the inside face that has "Camaro" wrriten on it too. You could also run them on the inside of the rim that runs at a 90 degree angle to the "camaro" surface, just behind the spokes.

If you dont understand what im talking about, i can try to elaborate, hard to type what I mean
