Figured I would start a thread about breaking at the Fest...

Got to the track early Friday morning and on my 2nd pass on the drag strip... I grenaded my rear end ....damn wheel hop...and the track hooked too good! I am not so mad about my rear end grenading as I am of the fact that I wanted to get more passes in! Why couldnt it grenade later in the day!!! owell, you play you pay! Still had a great time at the fest despite the :mad0260: !

Also, I want to throw out a huge thank you to RPM  for helping me out and getting me back home. Those guys were great! They lifted it in their trailer and had the rear end down in 10 mins...took it apart and metal chunks flowed out everywhere! Turns out the spider gears failed and took out everything else. They threw in a used stock rear end to get me home...and I cant thank them enough for all their work! Now, decisions decisions about making it stronger!

Anyone else break anything while at the fest? Post it, would like to hear some stories!

I attached some photos and the video of the crunch!

Don't forget to thank all those who were there to help you thru those emotional times of need. The list is long. Tim, Joe, Mike, Jim, Mike, Derrick, Jennifer, Bob, Becky, Ralph, Dave, Dawn, Mark, Rob, Tracy, Amanda, Jeff, Walter, Joe. Hopefully that is everyone.

That track was hooking better than most expected. Saw alot of coasting to the finish line on Friday.

milesss 08-08-2012 10:44 AM

Sorry to hear about breaking it, looks like your first pass was with me.

RPM Transmissions 08-08-2012 10:44 AM

So sorry to see that.. I know exactly how you feel..it's the motivator for major upgrades.. good luck :)

BeckyD@RodgersChevrolet 08-08-2012 11:17 AM

No better place to break than C5fest with

Now that you're over the emotional part -

Broke my right rear axle on Friday afternoon. Luckily it was on the "last" pass of the day. (eighth run)

I stopped by RPM Saturday morning and they said they'd look at it but already had a car up on their rack and showed me your gears laying all over.

Didn't want to wait so went over to Tony at Janetty's tent and they had me fixed up in about 30 minutes. :)

Agree with Becky, the Fest was the perfect place to have a fail.

I see in your mods you had the 3.91 gears. Those are one of my upgrade options when I make the axle/driveshaft investment. Did they give you an indication of what happened and where the fail started? Were there other upgrades to your rear end when you did the gear swap?

caliguy 08-08-2012 12:57 PM

Looked like the track official was VHT'n your side down pretty good, make him pay for it :sm0:

TAG UR IT 08-08-2012 01:53 PM

Ugh...that's horrible! I'm glad other stepped up to help you out, though. that's what it's all about! Now...I'm contemplating some 3.91 gears....lol

Dave Coyle 08-08-2012 01:58 PM

Hey Sam, after seeing this video and pictures I'm glad everyone jumped in and got you home!! I wish I was there to enjoy the fun but you know what I did to my rearend and just was not confident enough to travel done and have it blow out again!!! You got lucky and was able to drive home!!! Big THANKS to everyone involved in getting Sam back home!!!

HDRDTD 08-08-2012 02:41 PM

Golly, now even MORE people are going to see pictures of Sam's rear end.

Lmao. Glad everything work out.

CamaroGirl5 08-08-2012 07:04 PM

The spider gears failed...NOT the 3.91 gear...the chunks from the spider gears then grenaded the rest inside...I love this gear, makes a big difference in the car...it feels like a slug without it right now (still have the loaner 3.45 rear end in)...as far as what I am going to do, I am going to re use my case and put a new 3.91 in and a Eaton TruTrak inside it for now...then eventually I am going to upgrade to a 9 inch or hammerhead or gforce, etc, not sure what one yet.

My 1st pass sucked, I wasnt ready for the light and didnt get a launch at all, and then when I tried to shift into 4th my trans grinded me out so I got outta it and just coasted thru the finish line, hoped my 2nd pass would be better, but it wasnt haha! My trans is a whole other problem!

camaro4mybday 08-08-2012 07:52 PM

BlackCamaroLS 08-09-2012 07:08 PM

Holy crap Sam! You got some real bad luck with the differential! Thats bad! Hope you can get the right parts to withstand that kind of torque for the new rebuild! Saw the youtube video. Wish it didnt happen on ya! Good luck with the rebuild sam! - Joe
