Saw my first ZL1 in AR! What a sad story it was.

Ran into the owner in the parking lot of a local grocery store who was a very nice older gentleman. After complimenting the car we ended up talking for a while but the longer we talked the sadder the story got. He said he first talked to a local dealership who told him that the ZL1 was a special edition run of only 60. They proceded to direct him to another dealership locally who had one on hand to sell and told them to hold it for him. He then told me how much he payed which was $64,000 which seems way to high. I asked him if the dealership included in addons or features which he said no everything was basic stock. At this point we start talking future mods as he proceeds to tell me the local dealership is adding a new intake and a new exhaust which is going to add 150+ more horsepower just doing those 2 things. After that I asked him if he is doing anything to the exterior of the car which apparently he going to add 8 coats of clearcoat. You cant tell in the picture below but the car was quite dirty so I started talking washing. After owning the car for 3 months he has just sprayed it with water at home and taken it to the drive through car washes 3 times which as we all know will destroy paint especially a black car. I tried telling him (in a very nice way since I was trying to tell him out) to get online and do a little research before going further though, he told me he did not own a computer. It was just sad to see a $64k car not being detailed properly and how the dealerships tossed him around.

Nice Car. Just paid a little to much for it!

exhaust and CAI for 150hp, hahaha RIGHT. and 8 coats of clear. That will help a lot. Some people are just not car savvy and get ripped off

Wow. I have people coming to me all the time saying that they heard about the ZL1 and how they were only making 500. I wish it was that exclusive lol.

I got similar stories from a few dealerships when I was shopping for a ZL1. Got told they were only making 50 2012 models so the price was going to be 15K over MSRP....what a load of s##t!!! Do dealers really thing that most of us haven't done some research before we set foot in the showroom? Its a shame that this owner got taken advantage of and makes me mad that there is a lack of ethics that some dealers have. I will never understand why they cannot be honest. It brings customers back, not drives them away.....

I honestly just wanted to ask him to hand over the keys and tell him he didnt deserve it.

And that's why they're called stealerships.

Intellectual capacity of a shoelace so it seems. A clueless individual that makes you wonder how they made it through life as many years as they have. You probably could have convinced him to buff the car using a 1,500 grit sanding wheel and clean the upholstery with maple syrup.

I saw my first ZL1 at a local car show by me in south Jersey. The guy was now retired and bought his wife the ZL1. Sounds nice right...however, he said he paid 10k over msrp for it. When I started asking him questions about it...he then referred to the car as ZR1:facepalm:

Moral of story. 90% of people are just plain stupid.

Should I ask to detail his car for only $1,000 once per month?

Wait no...I am better then that.

Ill try for $2,000
