That sounds nice. Just takem' out?

nards444 05-29-2009 11:37 AM

so they just took the mufflers off. Is there a DIY instructions out there. Will this mess up the computer. To me it sounds like its still muffled by something is that Cat? Also does this car have true duals or is it a H pipe

Bawt 05-29-2009 11:39 AM

Sounds.... Awesome!

I'm super impressed!

Hylton 05-29-2009 11:42 AM

I just love how you can now see the IRS with those jerry cans removed. Great mod for looks and sound!

Yes, they just gutted the muffler with a strait through pipe. DIY would just be cut the muffler off, slip on this section and tack weld it on.

It won't affect computer -- nothing back past the cats are monitored. LS/LT/SS cars all have true duel exhaust w/ an X-pipe. And yes, the cats (2 per bank, 4 total) do muffle the car a bit.

Will it pass smog?

Sure, just tell them you have inline mufflers. It's the latest technology out there and the Camaro is the first car to have it available as an option. :D

Every state is different. But as long as you dont touch the cats there is no effect on the smog. Some areas have local ordinances regarding mufflers but then again I am not putting on my front license plate either.

Absolutely! Everything in front of the rear axle is left intact.

Perfect response.

radz28 05-29-2009 12:07 PM

Cool I think! It could only be better, for the money, if the pipes were mandrel-bent and stainless (they didn't look stainless anyways). I think the only muffling left are the resonators. It sounds pretty good!

GTAwheelman 05-29-2009 12:39 PM

 on start up and idle it sounds just like my truck. not that that is a bad thing.

i have a 2001 silverado with the 4.8 LR4(iron cousin of the LS engines) and the exhaust dumps right after the cat. it was suppose to be a temp fix, that was 2years ago.

LDGn63 05-29-2009 12:46 PM

i think i saw on a G8 site that the LOUDMOUTH system is basically a muffler delete...
is that true for the camaro too?

BTW, this is sweet!

2010 SS RS 05-29-2009 04:31 PM

No I am sorry for mis stating the pipe material. These are aluminized metal not stainless. I called the installer and he said he would try to make some extra pipes when the next one comes in but in reality this is pretty custom pipe bending and hanging to get the pipes centered and at the right angle to keep the factory exhaust look out the back. I have to tell you that after driving it some today, and the comments I have got from friends and folks that pull along side at stop lights. This exhaust has really made a difference. The thing I love is all the engineering GM put into the sound is not lost it is enhanced.

radz28 05-29-2009 04:38 PM

He's done a good job at centering from the pics' that I've seen. It can't be to easy to get them to align like that, but they look good.

m0ore4ustin391 05-29-2009 04:56 PM

Lol, finally someone did it. If it passes for inspection this is what i will be doing when i get my Camaro! Thanks for posting, sounds awesome for a muffler delete.

Isnt the exhaust assemmetrical, wouldnt you just make one to fit one side then copy for the other?

DDustiNN 05-29-2009 05:07 PM

Wow, that sounds great! Especially for the price!

Stevo 05-29-2009 05:14 PM

Nice, great job, inexpensive , probably shaved some weight off too...about how much do those mufflers weigh anyway?

NAHURRY 05-29-2009 05:15 PM

Thats what I will do! this sounds awsome! Anybody know were I can

get this done in the Greenville/Greer area?

Well in a perfect world or if perfection was not important you could do that. However to get everything lined up and in the center of the factory hole it was a process of bend fit and bend and fit until everything was just right. I am sure that some of the kits can come pretty close and they are getting another camaro in a few days so they will play around and see if they can come up with an acceptable kit. Other issue is the tip. I used the original factory tip but as a kit the unit would more than likely have to have a different tip already installed. Not a bad thing cause there are some real cool tips available.

I would say about 15 lbs each at most.
