The Camaro and Mustang sales for the year are about as close as it gets! :w00t:

Now if Dodge would bring their Challenger pricing back down into this orbit, they would be getting a larger market share.

I really believe price is what's holding that car back. You can get a GT500 or a ZL1 for what Dodge wants for the Yellow Jacket SRT-8, and that's ridiculous.

Anyway, glad to see the competition is still there! :drinking:

I'm with you there. The V6 seems competitively priced, but the 5.7 is not good enough. IMO the 6.4 hemi should be what the R/T gets and a SC 6.4 should be in the SRT.

Thanks again for the info , as always bright and simple to read .

I like this analysis!

The Camaro seems to hit the "market mark" better than the Ford or Dodge.

I would not own a Challenger; the build time is 24 hours, and it looks like it.

Mustangs are OK; more "pretty" to me than muscle.

Every time I see these stats I feel like I am patting myself on the back & I have nothing to do with Camaro sales, Chevrolet or the auto industry at all LOL

It's nice rooting for the winning team.

lol...I guess if Camaro falls to second or third place, we'll just have to all go buy a second one to help things out...lol

And you think the price of a ZL1 is not rediculous! ???

It's spelled 'ridiculous'...

And no, not at all. It's excellent value for the performance.

Yes, the ZL1 price is ridiculous.

However, supercharged 580HP >>>>> 470HP N/A that's in a boat IMO.

Competition like this is going to keep them all striving to be better than ever...which is great news for us. :chevy:

I hear you on that! I bought my Camaro at the end of November 2011.... Since then I've influenced two others (my parents, and another family I know) to buy a 2012 Camaro. It makes me happy to see the Camaro sales figures are back above the Mustang again. Admittedly, I do like what they've done with the 2013 Mustang compared to previous models so I understand their uptick in sales... but I still want the Camaro on top. :D :chevy:

Are you kidding me? I know I'll upset some but the ZL1 is the Camaro super car... the most powerful factory street-legal Camaro ever... for the price, I think it's an AMAZING deal.

mr02Z/28 09-05-2012 03:47 PM

Actually, I think the New 1LE is going to be the much better deal over the MSRP of the 5th Gen ZL1....Seems like a much more reasonably priced Camaro with some very good performance numbers compared to price.... Folks keep complaining that the ZL1 "isn't a Drag car" but they keep on modding it for the 1/4 mile run and running it at the drag strip and are adding countless amounts of money just to get into the High 11s....It appears the 1LE is a much better bang for your buck...

Whatever happened to the forum member The Pill. He used to make these monthly threads entertaining. Not necessarily more informed or intelligent. But more fun to read, at least. :)

The thread is honestly pointless without him, he needs to come back and post now I mean the past 4 months should give him plenty to talk about.

I actually disagree with the both of you on the Challenger, the Dodge doesn't really compete with the Camaro and Mustang head to head. Also if they are ok with the lower sales volume then there isn't much that has to be done about that as well.

In fact as far as price goes around me you can always get a Challenger for $6,000 off MSRP (though I know this may not be the case everywhere).

Though I would say that the issue with the Challenger has less to do with its execution and price and more to do with what it is. Compared to the Camaro and Mustang the Challenger is a large car, the front has more room then the other two. The back seat is actually practical (can seat adults) and has room for 3 in the back making it a 5 seater.

The Dodge Challenger is the closest to a muscle car that you can buy today. It is a very large car, and with a $6,000 discount on the R/T Challenger I can buy a brand new R/T for $25,000. This makes it a great deal cheaper then the Camaro SS and a bit cheaper then the Mustang GT (when you take incentives into account).

This really brings into question how big of a market is there for a pure muscle car, and while I don't doubt that there is a market for it it is a small one.

As far as the 5.7L Hemi goes, in the Challenger it only produces 370BHP while in the Ram trucks it produces 390BHP (and that is with a truck tune). I have no doubt in my mind that Dodge can get the 5.7L Hemi up to 425BHP for the Challenger and mate it to the 8 speed automatic. This will improve both its performance and fuel economy, though I honestly think that while its a better product for its customer base it won't increase its sales.

I honestly believe that this is why the Challenger is going away, and is slated to be replaced with a Cuda which will be more in line with the Camaro/Mustang.
