Today 50 Hot Wheels Edition Indy 500 Festival convertibles hit the streets of Indianapolis. The Pace Car will be announced in a few weeks.

The Mayor is going green and requested a Volt! It is not the Pace Car. A cool statement on his part.

We will get some more photos up soon. Very busy day.

Did they put any Indy 500 logos on the inside of the cars?

lee93 04-03-2013 02:47 PM

Hot Wheels logo on the front seats.

Nice job on the photos Steve!

Nice job, Steve - thanks for posting.

To those who want one, hope you like blue. Lots of blue!

Went through my Hot Wheels phase (yes, plastic orange track with purple connectors & loop the loop) in 1971 when I was 9, so it's cool to see this!

When they all get together , lets say for dinner , they better don't have anything for drink , or it's going to be a mess , just to find who's keys are for what car :smm7:

FINALLYSATISFIED 04-03-2013 10:42 PM

Nice photos!

Thanks - it is truly an honor to be able to go to the track and help out with the Festival Cars. I never grow tired of pulling through the gates in my Pace Car :hail:

Actually each key fob has a tag on it with the car #, so if you have to much to drink you just match it to the plate or sticker on the windshield :smiling1:

Wonder how the value of these Hot Wheels just went up. Very limited in numbers to start with, now add the Indy 500 heritage to it. While not being the pace car it must help some.

Very nice pics, thanks for sharing. How do you get the luck of helping with an event like this? Looks like a lot of fun!

Apple Chevrolet in York, PA has a Hot Wheels Edition for sale.

What happens with the 50 verts when the race is over?

JC6 04-04-2013 08:50 AM

They get distributed to dealers all over the place (not sure what the criteria is), they don't all stay in Indy but several usually do. Being a vert with the Hot Wheels package and Nav, these sticker around 51k. Being Festival Cars (not Pace Car replicas) GM does not add anything for that. But I am certain many dealers that get them will initially add a "market adjustment" like $5k. The better deal will be had by those that can find one sitting unsold well after the race (if possible). Keep in mind these will have varying amounts of wear and tear and mileage on them from time they are driven around here.

For anyone wondering, these are ALL L99 automatics. One thing I was surprised in was that the "matching" engine cover is a metallic black, and not blue... The metallic black is on the stripes and carried into the interior on the door panels and dash trim.

I call it being in the "Pace Car Circle Of Trust" and knowing the right people :headbang:
