A few pics of the new Z/28

I decided to take a day off from work to go down to the NY auto show and to experience first hand and witness the Camaro engineering marvel known to us as the Z/28. I was not disappointed. The first thing you notice on the car is that matte/satin pearl white paint. It certainly makes a statement when it's contrasted with black, too bad it won't be offered as an available paint option for the car and the rest of the lineup.

The next thing I looked for were the refresh changes and from my perspective, everything seems to flow with the design from front to back. The changes in the front with the lower grill gives it more air to breathe and a more aggressive look reminiscent of the ZL1. I'm glad that they didn't include the chrome piece on the upper grill, was and is not a fan of it. I like the CF hood extractor for it's functionality, but I'm sure that it could have been made a little larger for proportionality sake.

Moving into the interior, RECARO SEATS :happyanim: .... 'nuf said.

Now with the back end. I really like the non-rs taillights, it just seems to fit the car, especially seeing it from a number of angles. My only gripe would be the rear side marker. When the 3rd & 4th gens had the wraparound taillights, there were no rear side marker and when you compare those with this gen, it makes it a little too busy.

But all of the exterior and interior stuff, IMO, takes a back seat (figuratively speaking) to what this car can do. OMG!!!, a 427 LS7 motor?! CC brakes?!, DSSV dampers?! and countless suspension enhancements?! Trofeo tires?! Beating the ZL1 by 3 seconds on the Milford Proving Grounds?!.... it only means one thing.......It's what anybody who knows anything about cars what their reaction to the car will do....unless you make boatloads of money and have a Veyron or Aventador or the like. (not comparing it to the supercars, just saying)

Knowing that this car is bred for the racetrack (and for any auto enthusiast's car collection) it is not a car for me at this time. I will be extremely happy when I finally receive my 2SS/1LE this summer. It will serve all of the functions I expect from my Camaro. :whoo:.....But it doesn't hurt to dream.

Hope you all enjoy the pics, they were taken with my new Nikon D3100 with the 55-200mm lens. Love the camera so far, takes fantastic pics (shameless plug)

They are awesome, I'm looking forward to seeing if someone will make a replica. :headbang:

Kluch 04-06-2013 02:25 AM

Dang. I love this car!

carman II 04-06-2013 08:36 AM

Interesting that the torque is quoted as 500 ft-lbs here vs 470 on the Z06.

I must say GM did great bringing the Recaro's to the Camaro as an option. Too bad they can't offer the Matte White as a SE color. For those interested though they do have Matte White vinyl available for order through GM but you can only get the Hood and the Trunk in Matte White as pictured.

Love the new Z/28 but can't understand why they show it off and then say oh by the way it won't be available in this awesome color. Doesn't really make sense. I could understand if it was just a concept but its not. Still an amazing option for those looking for an amazing weekend track car.

Love that color. Love those wheels. Love the seats (not pictured). Just love my ZL1 more.

The seats are pictured, only in 1 pic though.

This also suggests the 2014 Z28 wll be in showrooms this year contrary to other information that has indicated next spring????

midnighter 04-06-2013 10:18 AM

I'm not really feeling the design of the wheels (flower) but they look good black nonetheless.

Great pics OP. Post more if you have them. Did you get to sit in the Recaros?
It is odd that they showed the car in this non-available color. Maybe a 'special' order?

I wish I had more pics to post, :sorry: the ones you see were the best of the batch. I believe no one got an opportunity to sit in the car...unless you had special privileges. ;) About the color, we can only hold out hope that GM can make this an available color option for next MY.

Correction. 2 pics @cvp33, check out post #2, last picture, and post #3, first picture.

Great pics OP. Absolutely gorgeous car. I would love to own a new Z/28 along with my ZL1. Wish we had the Recaros as an option for the ZL1. I want those seats!

Great pics Bad@assCamaro! Thank you for posting these.

Noticed some things from these pics:
  • Door handles are lovely pieces. Great detail.
  • Side view mirrors are beautifully sculpted. Very nice, multiple angles.
  • The front wheel well wickers are hard to see but visible in these photos. Very nicely sculpted and integrated into the front splitter and fender flares (not "flairs"! jezus ).
Really nice detail efforts and should pay great aero dividends. Proof is in the cd when that gets publicized.

Hope they make some pearlescent paint colors available. I think the back end looks awesome BTW.

Thanks for the substance over symbolism GM! Wow, really well done. Lovely car. Solid, purposeful. Puts Porsche to shame. There I said it.

:clap2:

wow , that paint has such a...satin finish i guess...that it really almost looks photoshopped in picture's.

Recaros will be available to order at some point through your dealer or any of the GM parts affiliated websites.

That is one bold statement. It's great the Z/28 could be considered on par with a Porsche. That was unheard of before this release.

No photoshop there. Au Naturale as the French would say ;)

Ha! Found the Easter Egg!

"Z/28" is forged into the edge of the wheel rims!

That is cool as hell! Hope that makes it to production.

If it's on the ZL1, it will be on the Z/28
