inline switch on battery terminal wire
 

I was thinking while installing some stuff on my Camaro that if there was an inline type switch I could install on my battery cable it would make all these mods that state to disconnect the battery easier.

Instead of having to pull the battery cable I could just flip the switch.

Do they make something that would be viable for that? something I could put on the positive wire in the engine bay maybe, so when working on the radio or something, I can just go in and break the circuit quickly, then when done just flip it back?

I found the below link type ones, they mount on the post of the battery, but I was looking for something more like a toggle, the point is so I don't have to dive into the back, remove everything from my trunk just to get to it. More something like a bigger toggle switch or something I can reach easily. Something i could mount in the engine compartment or somewhere out of sight but within reach.

We have "master switches" on all of our equipment at my work that are exactly that. Battery disconnects. When we work on equipment we have to have it "locked out" so it can't be started or moved while working on it and we use these switches to do that. Ill try and find a picture. Can probably get you one for the cost of shipping if you like.

That's it. Those are actually solenoids. An electrically actuated switch. You can get a solenoid at any parts place.

... no they arent. those are switches. solenoids use a small current to switch a larger amount of current.

That is a solenoid. See the two small poles (5/16" nuts). They are for the 12v switching. I have one on my drag car.

How could you use an inline switch, if you shut the trunk after shutting off the switch, and say you have a sub box mounted? No way to get into the trunk to turn it back on? Or is there another way to open the trunk?

I was originally thinking of something you could put on the positive terminal in the engine bay, that way you can reach it no matter if there is power or not.

But the link above that evilcamaro listed is a remote operated shut off switch...so it doesn't matter if the trunk is closed or not...I am looking into it myself and probably will go that route.

Use a starter solenoid from a ford. Then you can mount a switch anywhere to activate it.
