Second generation Front end differences

I'm really confused when it comes to the front end difference in 70 to 73 Camaros. I understand the split bumper thing, but I see a lot of other things I don't understand. I've seen the split bumpers with and without the 1" extension that surrounds the grill. I've seen some cars with turn signals between the headlights and the grill, and some with turn signals in the lower valance with and without split bumpers. There's no pattern to it. It seems people are switching things around so much, it's impossible to tell what really came on these cars from the factory. Does anyone have any correct information about these difference?

On factory RS cars with the split bumper, the parking lights are the round ones above the bumper. The longer turn signal lens beneath the bumper are converted standard front ends to the split bumper. Lots of people who put split bumpers on standard front ends fail to change the header panel for the round Turn signal lights.

Hope thats clear!

Would I be correct in assuming that all split bumper cars also had the header extension that surrounds the grill?

Review the diagram. There is also two seperation grilles and a hard rubber divider.i have owned several of these cars and I hate when someone tries to fake them. I also know the vin plates inside and out, so I can tell by a quick look.

Good diagram above! All RS cars had these parts shown

For 70-73 there was 2 style front ends, both of which split bumpers fit on, but a few different configurations that people often confuse. The RS option could be combined with a Z28 and most people think a Z28 has a full bumper, however, when the RS is added, the front end changes front standard with banana lights to the RS with the round lights.

The way I tell people is if it is an RS, it has Round Signal lights.
