No more front plate!

Looks like Texas has repealed the front plate requirement. Effective September.

I can't wait to take mine off!

utsaucy 05-12-2013 02:59 PM

Finally! September can't come fast enough

sasquash1984 05-12-2013 04:32 PM

Haven't had one on in 5 years of driving my 5th gen

Beemer 05-12-2013 05:30 PM

I went for a few years without as well but got a "warning" a few weeks ago and went ahead and put it on.

I'll take it off again in Sept, that's for sure.

Bills96TA 05-12-2013 05:34 PM

I wonder if this will cause any issues with plates that are older.

SECTION 3. The change in law made by this Act regarding the issuance of license plates by the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles applies only to the issuance of license plates by the department for a registration period beginning on or after the effective date of this Act. SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2013.

Beemer 05-12-2013 05:54 PM

I don't think so. The "issuance" of plates and the "display" of plates are two different things.

It would be nice if they could write this stuff in English, though.

DarkCry956 05-12-2013 08:03 PM

I've been pulled over twice for no front plate in 2 yrs. Got off with warnings no way ill put it on.

lalo_ss 05-12-2013 08:27 PM

finally !!!!

Nightspore68 05-12-2013 09:41 PM

Dammit, I just got mine riveted on a few weeks ago!

That's OK, my custom plates were expensive. It would be silly to only wear one.

Haven't seen the actual statutes but I'll look tomorrow.

As far as I can find on the Texas House Bill 557 is still in committee and has NOT been passed yet. I could be wrong but that is latest listing for the bill on the Txas legislature web site

mr_honez 05-13-2013 09:34 AM

HB 657 is still pending in committee. It's not a law yet, and may never be.

Beemer 05-13-2013 09:38 AM

Yeah - I jumped the gun a bit. Sorry about that.

LOL.. yeah I think it gets that far every year.

Maybe this year they will all go on vacation leaving only one person to vote.:help:

Childs Play 05-13-2013 08:49 PM

Too bad this bill gets thrown in every year and is never passed. They still have to vote on it. Doubt it will change. That being said I don't have a front plate.

CamaroI 05-13-2013 09:47 PM

Never use a front plate nor will I. Driving looooooooong time never been stop for plate. Even when stopped not sited for not having plates

Aubrey64 05-13-2013 09:54 PM

When I get my Aggressor 2 bumper I will not be putting a front plate on it whether this gets passed or not

2SSRSGTOTA 05-14-2013 01:20 AM

For years I'm driving my cars without a front plate and haven't had any problems with the law

Thats exactly how I look at it for my Lexus. The custom plates did cost way too much to only wear one.
