Tag's Little Garage Renovation

21 Attachment(s)
Let me start by saying that I know this isn't some gigantor super duper bad ass man cave garage with lifts and every tool known to man. But, it's just a small renovation that's been a long time coming for me.

Walls were dirty w/ holes in the drywall. Ceiling was never painted. Dim overhead lights couldn't light up the garage at all and made it impossible to see anything when working on the car at night. Shelves were tiny, warping, and couldn't hold as much as I wanted. Lawn mower and other garden crap was getting in the way and had to be taken out. Just lots of little things that were annoying which could have been better.

So we got to work.

Painted the garage (to match the car).

Removed the dual overhead lights and put in 3 light sets....4 lights per set at 5k lumes each light tube. 60k lumens in all...brighter than anything I've ever had and holy CRAP is it perfect for working on the car at night.

Took down all the wooden shelves that I fabricated which held all they could. I replaced them with new metal shelves and now have more space than I need.

I put up some pictures, the litho...and have more that I'm putting together.

Pretty much the only thing I have left is to paint the garage floor with the Rustoleum sealant stuff. I'll get to acid washing and painting soon. But here's what we've gotten done so far.

haha...Christmas shopping. I didn't really have any before pix since the garage was such a mess...and didn't think about pix until we we well under way. But yeah. Over Christmas, I went nuts at Sears.....actually, it was black Friday (oops). There were some AWESOME deals to be had and I put down just over a grand for everything....and it was WELL worth it.

I was hesitant to do the blue on the ceiling, but said screw it....why not.
It actually looks really cool in person and gives the car this awesome bluish hue to it when under the light. And yeah...wattage in the lights? Um...not sure. 162 watts, I guess?
Here they are from HD
This was a GREAT investment. About $340 for everything.

Oh...I use that thing all the time. can't believe it took me THIS long to get one. Love the magnetic bucket I put on the bottom too. That thing is a huge help.

I saw you pulling in your garage tonight all the way from Houston...

Don't know if it was all the lights or your permagrin.

...and I think a Tahoe can fit in there now,

TAG UR IT 05-13-2013 11:39 PM

You know what really sucks? A Tahoe COULD fit in there! ...and I want to put one in there!

We now have the Camaro paid off....which, is obviously a good thing. But, now have to weight out which is more important....the Tahoe or a nice 3 acre plot of land EXACTLY where we want it in the hill country. We could either get the land or Tahoe. Tahoe could be paid off by this upcoming Jan...free and clear. Or, we could have 2/3's the land paid off. DAMN...decisions, decisions... Since it's Dana's turn, I put the ball in her court. She said land. Yep. That is, unless she gets a job. If she gets a job, we can have both done in 3 years time. Now THAT is what I'm talking about!

2SSRSGTOTA 05-14-2013 01:25 AM

Great job now you need the floor

Sevn86 05-14-2013 01:32 AM

Looks great! I need to organize mine.

Hey TAG,

I'll be headed back to Fort Hood from Afghanistan in late July and I'll be selling by '07 Tahoe in the August/September time frame if you're interested.

I'm going to sell it so I can pay off my Camaro and buy a new truck.

Maybe that way you can get your land AND a Tahoe? :thumb:

rich3fan 05-15-2013 01:57 PM

Holy shizit! You really DID Doooooooooiiiiiittt didn't ya?

After reading your post in your build thread about transforming your garage, I got inspired. :thanks:

Here's a before:

And here are a couple of after:

As you can see my garage is about the same size as yours and cleaning up the floor is going to be a challenge. I'm thinking about renting a pressure washer and some good cleaning solution and go at it. I'm told that kitty litter is good to use in the garage as well. Lighting is definitely on my list as I want to be able to get my SS out of the hot Texas sun when I'm detailing. HD is just a stones throw away fortunately. Besides, my garage needs to be presentable when I start hosting :sm1: installapaloozas right?

Sorry for hijacking though. You done good job Tag!

Well, if the wifey gets a job, we can do both for sure. But she has her heart set on VERY specific options and we're probably going to buy as new as possible with as few miles as possible. Appreciate the offer though. that is...unless it's like an LTZ with SUPER low miles and is loaded? :D

HD being a stones throw away could be a VERY VERY BAD THING. Yes...I know this...

Garage looks good! And I know what you mean about cleaning the garage floor being a challenge... I have paint, oil, ...oh hell, everything on the floor. ...which .... is why it's gonna look so dang good once it's done. But, it's gonna be hell cleaning it. :(

PIPE 05-16-2013 06:11 AM
