L99 w/ American Racing Headers & Tune...I got your 0-60 right here.

ORIGINAL DYNOS on these mods:
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29464

I did this tonight...still pretty hot and humid, but just to show you guys having trouble how much 2 small mods will help...
ARH headers and my man Bluecat on the tune...

This car is no factory freak, its just an average L99, that didn't run that great before...not that its a speed freak now, its just MUCH improved.
Even my wife (who was coming from our BMW 335i) said the camaro was SLOW before...she admits its faster now.

All I did was brake it to 1000rpm and floor it, sorry if the camera shook some, it does pull alot better now.

Anyone on the fence about American Racing Headers with a Dyno tune...you need to get off it and do it, especially you L99 guys, it will make a Night and Day difference in your car. When Bluecat was wrapping up the tune, he said,"This sure doesn't feel like a car that runs 13.9 now."

Its in another thread, but ~350 rwhp/370rwtq...gained 42rwhp/42rwtq at peak with ARH/tune.

mlee 06-27-2009 09:47 PM

Thanks... that's Excellent... and you still have stock mufflers?

Yes, stock mufflers...sounds pretty mean at WOT, but quiet as a mouse when cruising.

mlee 06-27-2009 10:05 PM

I went the other way around... with Corsa Catback... I heard both headers and catback would be very loud. One or the other to keep it quiet until you get on it. Pretty happy with my setup too. Waiting just a bit on the tune, but have Hennessey CAI also.

I'm going to hit the track one more time and then do the tune...

96rss/ls6 06-27-2009 10:29 PM

how much was headers and tune?

ChevyMuscle 06-27-2009 10:34 PM

Very nice! Even heard a little tire scratch I think...

mlee 06-27-2009 10:37 PM

Headers are just under a grand and tunes in the 300 - 400 range

novajess1972 06-27-2009 10:39 PM

Is the tune gonna affect warranty?

Yep... that's why I went with Catback and CAI for now. I'll be doing Super Charger when I'm ready to lose the warranty.

True ARH probably are... I've seen others around a grand.

Do you want to get out run by mustangs, challengers and 370Z's? I'm a little stupid some times, but I guess to me, beating mustangs challengers etc is more important than warranty...but I'm a redneck from KY:iono:

That thing sounds awesome, did you turn off the AFM? Also, did you tune out torque management?

Ject 06-27-2009 11:07 PM

so is it just the headers and no other exhaust ? thats pretty nice if so!

kdoske 06-27-2009 11:43 PM

sigh, I know you are saying its hot but im still clocking this at 5 seconds to 60. So, spend $1800, get a tune, and ALMOST get your advertised times from the manufacturer specs--lame.

The L99 is a real disappointment to me right now. Im sure 100 people will reply to this post telling me im crazy but im sorry, these are just not the numbers I was expecting on my Auto Camaro.

My timing method was the stopwatch on the Iphone and I would push start when the RPM's reached 1k on the TACH.

Whatr ya crazy!?!?!?!!!! That was shit hot! LAME my ass!!

hehe. jk. But really. An amateur driver just mashing the pedal in an auto... thats still a pretty hot time. just my opinion.

:w00t: Very Nice

Not trying to be a jerk, but your method of timing is not real scientific. Chevy's claim was 4.7, do you know how much user error is in the method your using...and how easy that would be to lose a couple tenths of seconds. Second, Chevy's times were achieved in "ideal" weather conditions, like I prefaced the video with, its still hot and humid, DA well over 2000 here. My original 13.9 @ 102 was in 3000DA weather, had it be run in the weather Chevy achieved their best times in, it would have be low 13's all day (stock), now I can assure you it is much faster than that.

I agree I am somewhat dissappointed with the performance, BUT the point of my original post, is that with 2 mods, not only will it sound the way it should have from the factory but you will achieve BETTER (not equal) performance as well.

There is a reason people like Motor Trend and Car and Driver don't use stopwatches (esp on a phone:facepalm:) to try to achieve accurate acceleration times. I suggest if you want to use your Iphone you purchase this app...

I think it is silly that you have spend that much money to make your Camaro faster only to have it still slower than GM's advertised times for the same vehicle.. Your title says you're a PharmD so you probably make enough extra money to spend on tunes and so forth which is great. If your car ran how it was supposed to, your tune would have yielded even better results.. My point is with the modification you did and the tune, you should be getting better results.

vsgls1 06-28-2009 06:58 AM

Nice video!

pharmd 06-28-2009 07:02 AM

^And my point is, it is NOT slower than GM advertised results...you CANNOT compare 2 different cars running at 2 different times of the year, in 2 different geographic locations using a phone based stop watch off a video and consider that to be an accurate representation numbers...COME ON MAN?!? My car is probably a 0-60 in 4.5 seconds compared to GM's claim, if I were to have run it on the same day that they ran theirs...you have too many variables to consider to be able to make the statement you are making...Yes, my background is science, and the methodology of 0-60 timing you are referring to, on which you are basing your claims of it being slower...is totally not scientific at all....my point being that is why C&D, MT, R&T etc all use the Vbox or other softwear to measure timing...not the stopwatch on their Iphone while watching a video of the run.

mlee 06-28-2009 09:21 AM

Have to agree with you pharmd... I know the Hot weather affected my times. 13.9 at 103 and 2.23 60' Once we see optimal conditions, which is what GM is abviously going to test under these times will go down. Up in the NE they have run advertised times. Down here in H-town not so...

Concur, with pharmd. Sounds like forum racing to me.
