Daily drivers..

Picking my SS up on Tuesday! It'll be my daily driven car.. I mean if there's a bad snow storm I won't go out or ill use someone else's car (family).. Do many people have the camaro for everyday? Is it a bad car to drive year round, etc?

AdamZ 06-30-2013 11:18 PM

Every day.

Bradley 06-30-2013 11:21 PM

Drive it every day....

Algeron 06-30-2013 11:28 PM

I drive mine every day, for now. Once my son gets his finances together and can finish paying to get his car out the ship, I will go back to using the Z28 as the DD.

SSmedwin 06-30-2013 11:32 PM

Anything that's different driving the camaro as a DD? Rain issues or cold weather?

Get snow tires. They just don't work in the snow lol.

I might just drive another car in the snow

Every day babay

Drive mine everyday, I haven't had any issues, just get a good set of tires. I run General G-Max AS-03 and I can't say enough good things about them. A set of tires can make a big difference.

Are those good in the snow too?

dixonk 06-30-2013 11:48 PM

I drive mine everyday...but I don't have snow to worry about. I've found it is quite waterproof lol.

HotWheel 06-30-2013 11:51 PM

If I get to it before my son, I drive it every day. ;)

Mine was a daily driver for 28,000 miles. Drove in light snow twice, in heavy snow once, with the Pirelli P Zeros, which are summer rated. Stay the heck off of bridges before they salt them. That was scary. But once everything is salted it's not much different than driving in the rain. Even in heavy rain you need to take it easy. I cannot explain to you how much power the LS3 has. So driving in the rain requires some caution. After your first couple of trips through the rain though, you'll get a feel for it, and adjust. No big deal.

*raises hand* - every day, only a couple times I've taken the old car so far, mostly to use up the gas in both of them equally :)

SSmedwin 07-01-2013 12:20 AM

Thanks for the responses..

You guys put 93 or regular gas?

Bmatth1162 07-01-2013 12:23 AM

I have an F-150 I "planned" to use as my DD but honestly I end up taking my SS 95% of the time unless it's supposed to hail/snow and I haven't thought twice about it. You'll understand on Tuesday... you'd be sad to leave it if you had another car as a DD

My only word of caution... if there's a *chance* of snow... get a ride. I got caught in a sudden snow once and had to leave the SS in an empty parking lot and call a friend to get picked up, I might as well have had tires made of vasoline in .5" of snow

nbsp 07-01-2013 12:29 AM

I put 95 in it (91 & 95 down here) - currently half way through my 3rd tank since picking it up from the dealer, when i've finished my 4th and filled up I'll do the fuse pull.

You never know what dealers put in there...

Would running regular ruin the cars performance? I heard the ls3 takes "any" gas

Yes. The computer will detect the lower octane and drop into the low octane fuel maps to avoid knocking. The V8 should be ran on 91 or higher.

Get a cheap 4x4 for the snow. Same price as snow tires :sm0:

JCunningham 07-01-2013 01:05 AM

I drive mine everyday and was very disappointed with the factory tires. I put on a set of the General G-Max AS-03s as well and what a difference they make! The factory tires are completely pointless in the snow as in you can't even move with a dusting. The G-Max is an all season tire and gets much better wet weather traction and I can still grip the road when it gets cold.

That said, I ended up getting a winter beater mostly because a Camaro was never designed to tote skis :der:

never leave home without it!!

It was when I lived in Vegas. Now that I live in San Diego my motorcycle has become my daily.
