Do u know anyone who has installed this? Is there a site that shows install iinstructions and a finished look and any functional video on this product? Have heads up in my '97 GTP and love it, wondering bout all the specifics of this product. Thanks

SS_Diaz 07-18-2013 03:55 PM

There are about 30 or more people on this site who have installed it. The instructions are also on this site but i just have to find the page. They also provided me with a webpage in the box with the kit for further instructions. If i find the link on this site i will post it on here. There is a step by step instructions with pictures and a functionality video after the install.

I've done the install. It took us about 8 hours. We also put in the 2012 dash while we were at it.

Rhyder 07-18-2013 06:52 PM

If you dont have HUD, I would look into this seriously....

HUD is one of the number one features I like in the car by far.......

jahnny 07-20-2013 10:43 PM

What's the difference in the '12 dash? Is HUD an oem option avail now? This kit is the same one that GM offers?

jahnny 07-20-2013 10:49 PM

Also, final pics of the install and what it looks like? And, my GTP has a special windshield for reflecting the display, what's the case of adding it w/o the special windshield for the Camaro? I know that I had a friend who didn't want to pay the extra $1K back in the day on his GTP & the special windshield, and all the info was not as bright n was blurry compared to the correct one.

SS_Diaz 07-22-2013 05:10 PM

Hey jahnny im trying to find the thread of what the final install looks like, so i'll post it on here as soon as i find it. For the camaro i know there is a different winshield also for the HUD just like the GTP. Most people didnt seitch out thier windshield because they said the difference was very minimal. I know there are pictures on this site of how it looks without the special windshield im just having a hard time finding them but i will keep searching. Also yes this is the same kit that GM offers. All GM parts except the harness which was made by "ofer". His website is gen5diy.com

jahnny 07-23-2013 01:00 AM

ok, thanks for the info/update. keep me posted please

The 2012 dash has a different center duct and the insert.
HUD was an OEM option added on the 2LT and 2SS in 2011.
The kit shown is GM parts. It is plug and play you just have to get far into the dash to remove the main duct to be able to install it properly.

It is still quite visible only smaller print like when changing songs on the radio is blurred. The main speed tachometer etc are fine.

I've seen Skutt's in person, pretty cool I'd say... cool enough I just bought a head unit on eBay.... and yes I'm sort mod nuts.... need a trim piece, control and Ofer's harness.....

dkp2LT 07-23-2013 09:34 AM

I've done the HUD install also & did it slow over two weekends. It looks scarier than it actually is. My only recommendation is to keep track of your screws & put them with each piece you pull out. I had a bunch of baggies that I put the screws in and taped them to the piece - I also made any notes that would help me put it back.

I'm 50, not a mechanic, & my tools come from Harbor Freight. If I can do it by myself anyone can!

Highly recommended Mod!

jahnny 07-23-2013 11:58 AM

how much is that suede dash piece? and you need to order a ZL1 center vent to make that dash piece fit properly?

great pix and info, thanks for those

jahnny 07-23-2013 12:10 PM

Also, is there a intensity/adjustment switch that comes with this kit? If so, where does it mount?

SS_Diaz 07-23-2013 03:15 PM

Thank you for the pictures skuttduck!! The intensity knob is pictured in my second post. Its the one in the ac delco baggie on the right. You control everything on your HUD with that button. The knob will go to the right of your steering wheel, right behind where you put your keys in just like in any camaro that has HUD.

jahnny 07-23-2013 04:53 PM

I thought thats what it was in your pic. Do u have to cut the dash to install that? I've not seen any camera's yet that have factory HUD. Think there's a block-out plate there now that you'd remove? My cars been in storage since last October, so I can't visualize it right now. Thought iI saw it in the pic above of the dash on the ground.

And btw, i dont spend time really on forums, whats the deal with people saying bump in the messages?

SS_Diaz 08-11-2013 12:03 AM

Bump, still for sale. If anyone needs any pictures or part numbers of what i have just let me know. Jahnny yes you have to cut unless you buy a new dash. The kit comes with a stencil for the cutout.

SS_Diaz 09-05-2013 07:48 AM

I still have it if anyone is interested.
