Headlights always on after windows tinted

I got 3M window tint in my car. 50 on the windshield and 40 on the sides and back. Now my headlights stay on even under a very sunny day. What is up with that?

davidcroft 09-10-2013 11:46 AM

really? You tinted your front windshield?
That's why!

Dude, my 45th had the same tint on the windshield and did not have that problem.

mmarx82 09-10-2013 11:50 AM

Yep, the sensor is on the back of the mirror as far as I understand, could be wrong.

yotaman96 09-10-2013 11:59 AM

Have you made sure the headlight knob isn't in the on position?

jbotta 09-10-2013 12:07 PM

Wow, This is the first I have seen on this blog, Lets us know what you find.

Read Page 155 (6-3) in your owners manual. It shows the location of your daylight sensor.

The guy lives in Puerto Rico. If you have never been there or lived there then you won't understand. The place is hot year round.

I know a thing or two about Puerto Rico.

URBAN LEGEND 09-10-2013 01:16 PM

Try opening sunroof cover to allow some sun in. That could help.

Whos_Drivin 09-10-2013 01:19 PM

Turn the headlight knob counter clockwise once to turn off the automatic light controls.

No sunroof.

What?! No sunroof in Puerto Rico?! Yeah I know but the car was imported like that.

And yes I've played with the knob and showed the dealer and they don't know why it is doing that. I know I can just turn it off but I wantit to work as it should.

Your not suppose to tint your Windshield

The Light sensor is on the dash or the mirror that controls the Headlamps.

I've owned a Tint and Acc store for 28 years. glasstintetc.com
My entire windshield is tinted with 50%, also on all my other GM vehicles.
Put lots of 50% on customers vehicles windshields regularly.
Never had this problem, they may have got it wet are dirty and or disconnected it in the course of the job.
Take it back to your tint installer and ask him to check it out.
But for sure 50% is not your problem.

OPP 09-11-2013 04:27 AM

Yesterday, early afternoon, clear sky, bright sun, the headlights were off. But once it got cloudy they turned on again. I'll check with the tint installer.

What you just posted is proof it is the tint on the front windshield. Bright sunny day more light getting through. Cloudy= less light. The automatic sensor is working correctly.:laughabove::bonk:

I'm sure a ZL1 DRL harness will fix this problem, if you don't have it already.

Guys, I got some sick new Rayban sunglasses the other day but everytime I wear them I can't see as well, like it's dark out or something. As soon as I take them off though I see perfectly fine.

My reading glasses I see just fine with them on as I see with them off, but not with these guys.

Anyone know what's up with that? I'm going to go check with the salesman I bought them from cuz this is not acceptable!!! :mad0259:

I have my windshield tinted, no issues at all

Asanti 09-11-2013 09:01 PM

My windshield has been tinted 50% for months with no issues whatsoever. The shop owner that did my tint owns a 2013 SS and has his tinted at 50% and all his other cars as well with no issues.
