1LE ordering will be suspended for 3 months due to cold weather

Just got this from GM.

Quote:

Effective November 19, 2013, Chevrolet will temporarily suspend processing of orders for the 2014 Camaro ZL1 model and the SS Performance Package (RPO: 1LE) due to the effect of cold weather on the performance tires for these models. Again, it is only a temporary suspension that does not impact the Camaro LS, LT and SS ordered without 1LE. Order processing for the 2014 Camaro ZL1 and the SS Performance Package (RPO: 1LE) will resume on February 11, 2014.

wow. yep, people aren't going to be happy. especially those in warm weather states.

Blownhotrodder 11-13-2013 05:42 PM

That will help keep production #'s down.

1LEMayhem 11-13-2013 05:49 PM

I wonder if the tires are the only reason.

Makes sense. I got a feeling that's, at least in part, what was the original hold up from shipping during the 2012 roll out.

elarson5757 11-13-2013 06:07 PM

I've been to the plant as a vendor. It's the only reason. They can't store and move the cars outside in the lot and on trucks in the freezing cold due to tires.

Time to move those factories down south. No unions and warm weather

Or time to switch to Michelin PSS...

Murse 11-13-2013 06:33 PM

! I placed my order on 11/8/13 and received 3000 status today. I hope they build mine before it gets too cold! Its already getting below freezing at night in Oshawa. Fingers crossed!!!!!

S3XPanther 11-13-2013 06:34 PM

They should've done this last year rather than having shit tons of orders just sitting there without having given the customer any forewarning.

Did you read the dates? If you did you'd see it does not effect you.

I read the dates smart @55, I'm just saying i hope they don't put a hold on my car if it gets too cold

20141le 11-13-2013 06:36 PM

Sweet! I can drive around and still be the only 1LE for a little longer...bwa ha ha! I have never seen one in this part of Eastern NC.

Q'smuscle 11-13-2013 06:39 PM

I think everyone who's smart will will order theirs now. So everyone can be happy! But still bad on GM :s part because they should've gave a way earlier notice . What the heck!

Murse 11-13-2013 06:40 PM

It's already falling below freezing in Oshawa

elarson5757 11-13-2013 06:41 PM

Actually they already made the decision to move production for the next generation to Lansing, MI. They will still have the cold weather issues unfortunately but these models are such a small part of production and it's such a short period it's not considered I suspect. Don't get why they just don't use a different tire.

Everyone wants instant gratification these days! This is not GM making an arbitrary decision this is a legit safety issue so if you have to wait a couple more months big deal.

This may be a positive for some members like myself. I am waiting for pricing to be released on the Z/28. That will be the determining factor as to whether I purchase a ZL1 or 1LE. Also prevents me from making an impulsive decisions due to a lack of patience,

markgws6 11-13-2013 07:37 PM

Well now that's a drag... especially those using their holiday "bonuses" and pay to put a down payment on one. GM shoulda took over the NUMMI plant here in Fremont. Could crank out 1LEs and ZL1s all year long!

Bad@ssCamaro 11-13-2013 07:38 PM

I wasn't planning on ordering mine until March anyway  Hey! I ain't stoopid. :twitch:

Doesn't change anything. Regardless of the official hold, the car would not have shipped. Then like last year, you end up with a bunch of people pissed off because their car is built and just sitting there.

And based on last year, they may start building again in February, but the cars still won't ship. This year, they didn't start shipping in mass until mid April (because it was too cold).

Likely won't make much, if any difference, based on the numbers from last year.

Michael2000 11-13-2013 08:25 PM

Even Nov. 19th seems late.

They should just ship them with Michelin's. Better tire anyway.

Michael

Just build a model car just like the one you want and go "vroom vroom" and order parts until they arrive.
