My Dad just bought a 2009 Challenger SRT8

He called from the dealer and asked "Does your car have 1500 miles on it yet?"

Now...He got an Automatic whereas my 2SS is the LS3.

Let the fun begin!

He should pick up his car tomorrow from the dealer!

LabRat 07-17-2009 03:48 PM

Hope he likes it!!

I have been a fan of them since my 1970 440.

The LS3 and L99 put out roughly the same power and times so either should take the SRT-8 just fine.

We WANT Video!!!

Nothing like a little family comp!

thecamaroguy 07-17-2009 03:49 PM

He has a 70 Cuda with a 440 now...

This one he said matches it pretty close.

ToddSS 07-17-2009 03:50 PM

Get a pic side by side. I love the SRT-8 Challenger.

tjbusa 07-17-2009 03:52 PM

You will rule with the manual, your dad will rule with out of pocket msrp

nards444 07-17-2009 03:57 PM

ls3 is a tad quicker from the numbers. LS99 will be even or touch slower. As much as i am a Gm fan all my cars have been chevy. If I had the money for the SRT-8 i would probably buy that instead.

That sounds about right.

Rogue Leader 07-17-2009 04:04 PM

Cool my dads's looking at Challengers too, except he wants the V6 :barf:

nards444 07-17-2009 04:05 PM

yeah i had the car and driver or something else that had all the numbers. Camaro has whole stopped and handled better. 0-60 in the LS3 4.8 or something and SRT8 was like 5.2. LS99 was about same as the SRT8 either way these cars are so close, thats it going to come down to driver and what tranny u have

Lee9710 07-17-2009 04:08 PM

Dont know where those numbers came from but my L99 is running 4.7 to 4.9 0-60 times and 13.0 to 13.2 in the 1/4. 5.2 is nowhere close to what I run. The L99 is quicker in the 0-60 by .1 or .2 secs but the LS3 is like .1 or .2 secs faster in the 1/4. I have seen many L99s here beat LS3s at the track. People seem to think because a couple people on here have problems with their L99 that they are all slower. This is not the case. I took an SRT-8 by .3 secs just last week and am going back out there tonight.

nards444 07-17-2009 04:09 PM

http://www.dodge.com/hostc/bmo/summary.do

with tax and such you would be looking at about 46 hard ones, thats what kept me away and i think a lot of others

Legend 07-17-2009 04:09 PM

Love the SRT8s...would of bought one for sure had I not got the Camaro SS!

Congrats to you Pops and yes...pics are a must!

RobH 07-17-2009 04:10 PM

Not to get off topic or anything but you should post your time slips for the faster 1/4 list...you'd be right near the top if not the fasted with a 13.0!

Maybe for this site, but there are several guys out here running 12.9 or 12.8. We have had very cool temps for the past several days. It is supposed to be 66 tonight. I ran a 12.9 with my '05 GTO with slicks so I know this Camaro can do it without. As for posting my time slips, I never thought to keep em since I race every week with my Trans Am, but when I go tonight I will keep it and post it later this weekend. The situation was the same for the LS2 GTOs, the manual was a tad quicker in the 1/4 and the auto quicker in the 0-60. I have never been able to figure out why everyone always thinks the stick is so much faster.

nards444 07-17-2009 04:23 PM

I think a stick is faster once you get past the first and second gear.

It hasn't shown with anyone I have ever raced. If that is the case then I could use the paddle shifters and be fine.

WeeZee 07-17-2009 04:34 PM

SRT8's are sick, I pretty much like all of them. The Challenger SRT's are real badass. He will enjoy his new toy, tell him to lower it about a 1-1/4" & get light tints (35%) they look perfect like that.

ffrcobra_65 07-17-2009 04:36 PM

this turning out to be another bench racing thread :popcorn::popcorn:

why o why :iono:

Lee,

Where are you running your car? Since mine is forever in QC hold .. would love to watch you run yours!

nards444 07-17-2009 05:17 PM

im not into arguing over manual vs auto. Sticks have been know to be faster and better for racing. If autos were better then why do dragsters and nascar use stick?
