Clicking Noise

Hello.

I noticed that whenever I put my car in reverse and backup, I can hear a clicking noise that seems to be coming from under the front of the car.
It only seems to do this in reverse and it is consistent, about every second.
I can shift from park, to neutral, and back and it doesn't make the noise.
I have a 2/SS with the automatic transmission.
I don't seem to have any transmission shifting or overheating problems.
I'm taking it to the dealer tomorrow to have the stripe put on, and he's going to check it out for me.
Has anyone had this problem, or may know what could be causing this?
I talked to another member with a 2/SS auto, and they don't have the sound, so it's definitely a normal noise.

Thanks.

Same thing with mine. She's in the shop waiting for a couple of parts.

Service guy didn't know exactly what parts. Said
the mechanics ordered them and will be here w/in a couple of days.
I should have her back by tomorrow. I'm sure the parts will be
listed on the work order and I will let you know.

What was the word on yours?

Hoddi 08-28-2009 11:32 PM

I just picked my baby up tonight. Gosh I missed her.
I feel empty when she gone.

Problem fixed. :D

This is exactly what it says on the work order.....

Installed retrictor & refilled coolant as per bulletin
12337820 Strap, I/P
1470030 Clamp
10188036 valve ASM

Oh yeah, I was really uneasy about leaving my car at the
dealership the other night since there was a big fire near by.....

OMG, Holly...I hope you and your baby are not going to be affected by the fires...I was thinking about you when I heard on the news about the situation out in CA...glad you got your "baby" back "good as new"...

2ss inferno orange automatic mine does the same thing. I never thought to take it to the shop I just turned up the stereo.

Mine does the same thing. Has anyone asked the dealer what that noise is?

ckaram 09-02-2009 10:08 PM

I have a 2LT with 6M and I get the noise during deceleration just as I come to a stop; gradual acceleration as well.

Took it to dealer and the service manager for a ride and replicated the sound. They checked it out and could not find anything "wrong". They supplied me a bulletin that said the LLT motor has a clicking due to the high pressure fuel pump and injectors.

FWIW it doesn't sound like the clicking is coming from the engine; sounds like it's the trans. I'll keep an eye (ear) on it.

montej23 09-02-2009 10:13 PM

Ckaram whats your production number of your camaro? has anyone else experienced this?? if thats the case ckaram all 2lt m6 would do that. Ill look at mine when i get it too see if i have that as well

ckaram 09-03-2009 05:58 AM

I'm 19,736. It's a very faint sound at first. Keep windows up and radio off. I've had no other symptoms that seem to be trans related other than this "soft" noise.

The clicking moves with the speed of the car, does it in any gear, clutch in our out, ac/blower on and off. Can't hear after about 10 mph during acceleration. I've shared with the dealer the posts that seem to relate to this, like CV joint.

PM'd you Hoddi

Yellow1lt 09-05-2009 12:08 PM

Hey guys I have a 1lt 6A and I am getting the noise as well? Dealer didn't sound to bright when I called them about it. Having them look at it when I get my front lip installed since that has to sit over night as well. If anyone has more info please fill me in. Thanks

SGOS252382 09-05-2009 12:14 PM

So what's the cause?
My 2SS/RS L99 A6 also does some clunking when I back up down the driveway.

RickyTheStorm 09-07-2009 06:44 PM

Mine does it going forward and coming to a stop or slowly accelerating. I thought it was from the tire since it goes with the speed of the car and that is what it sounded like, but now that I listen closer I am thinking trans. I can replicate when cold or hot - but you can't notice it on the highway, it is only at a slow speeds that I notice it.

ckaram 09-07-2009 07:57 PM

GM called the dealer after they looked at the car the first time. They wanted it in the air again to check if the drive shaft tab (label) was spinning and hitting something making the click. It wasn't. The mechanic is recommending a field service engineer get involved.

Car runs great, just this noise...keep you posted.

I have the same noise under the exact circumstances. I am tempted to take it to the dealership but I'm afraid I won't be able to duplicate it there. It sounds to me like a bicycle with a card stuck in the spokes and clicks when it goes around. I have found about a dozen posts with the same issue. My vin is 10335.

I had the exact same thing. Turned out that a part of the heat shield was rubbing against the drive shaft. I hope this is all it is with yours. Easy fix.

benjaminkeith 09-13-2009 02:24 PM

I notice a GRINDING noise every once in a while when backing up. It SEEMS to be coming from the left front of the car. I can't tell if it's brakes or transmission.

Unfortunately, it only happens every once in a while (mostly when I'm not really paying attention or ready for it) so I can't narrow it down.

Car runs fine though and no other REAL problems...

I dunno.

I'll be taking her in on Monday and report back...

ThisChicksGotAYellow2SS 09-13-2009 05:40 PM

I have this same problem, it's not like the clicking noise that everyone else is describing. It seems like my brakes, but i'm not sure. What I can say is that the people at my dealer are dumbasses and would not have a clue if I asked them. Anyone got any ideas?

Mechanic at the dealer played with the heatshield on mine as well. Appeared to not help since the noise was present after I left the dealership.

However, next day and one full week after this--no more clicking. I gotta think this was my issue as well.

I thought the same thing. I could have sworn it was the rotors grinding or something. Sounded like it was in the wheels and only did it when I was backing up. Turned out it was only the heat shield issue.

I may have this issue.
Today I started my car and put it in Reverse. Before I even started backing up I heard a weird noise (a rattle/transmission type noise that worried me). I backed up and put the car in D then back to R and no noise? When I got home I parked in the driveway and put it back in R and no noise.

But I have a feeling after my car sits for a long time and I start it and put in in R, I'm going to get a rattle type noise. It could definately be a heat shield.

could just be your calipers especially if car has been sitting for some time. Once you break the grab on the rotor during the first few feet of fore or aft, it is good to go for rest of the day.

Have the same issue here! Thought I was the only one. Nothing noticable on level ground in reverse but backing down drive way "click.click.click". Have the GM rep in next week at work, going to make him listen to it. If I can replicate it
