Burning plastic

Did any of you guys have the smell of burning plastic after you drove it the first couple hours on the first day out...? Normal?

firestone_ss 08-12-2009 10:52 PM

actually i had it after a few miles on it bout 800 for a day or two, thought i had a plastic bag on the exhaust but nothing,if it lasted any longer i was going to take it in but i havent had it since

SSOOCH 08-12-2009 11:57 PM

It's just all the new parts burning in. Especially the exhaust. Nothing to worry about.

oh yeah. Within minutes of driving, I had smokes coming from under the car. Lots of smoke as if the car was on fire! I looked under and saw the stock # labels were still wrapped around the exhaust pipes! They haven't completely burned off yet after 150 miles.

Make sure those labels are off the car.

Makes me feel better. i'll check it out tomorrow. I thought i was the only one. I got mine 2 Days ago and had the same smell.

broncosman 08-13-2009 12:34 AM

yeah mine was smelling today. tomorrow I'll check under it (as much as I can see w/o a lift) to see if there are any labels there...

Just normal I pick alot of cars up new from the dealer for work and all of them do it

Paperer 08-19-2009 08:45 PM

Yeah, all new cars do it, at least the ones I've been around. My friend just got a new Honda and it already has 5K miles and it smells like that still.
