Speedventures California Speedway

Any fellow Z/28 owners going this Saturday?

McRat 08-06-2014 05:25 PM

A jilted Z/28 owner will be at the AutoX with a Red ZR1.
The Z/28 is still "waiting for rail".

ddunerider 08-06-2014 05:30 PM

I will be there looking for one...:hail:

Chumlee 08-06-2014 07:42 PM

I'll be there Saturday & Sunday for Auto X

zcarczar 08-06-2014 08:57 PM

Awesome, I'm running the roval.

MTCobra 08-06-2014 10:33 PM

Not a Z/28 owner but I just registered for Sunday. I may seek you out if you're running Sunday. I have a black ZL1.

zcarczar 08-07-2014 01:47 AM

I wish I could make it Sunday, I was originally scheduled to run on Sunday but had some stuff come up and switched it to Saturday.

Got the alignment and tow hooks installed, changing out coolant tomorrow and got my helmet cleaned and ready to go. I can't wait.

Spoolin 08-08-2014 01:20 AM

I'll be there both days with my SW 1LE running the RoadCourse. Hopefully meet a few guys while I'm out there.

Natebrod 08-08-2014 02:34 AM

MTCobra 08-08-2014 08:26 AM

KRich2587 08-09-2014 07:46 PM

Hey last minute I'll be joining. fresh oil checked my alignment and hoping i dont have cooling issues lol. See you all out there can't wait to see these Z/28's!!!!

McRat 08-09-2014 07:54 PM

Great to see the Camaro Crew show up in force!

I ran the ZR1 for the first time. 36.1x needs fresh tires. It was a riot though.

Tomorrow will be wifey's CTS-V.

KRich2587 08-09-2014 08:27 PM

1:36.1x?!?!? Holy shit that's fast!! My best is 1:56.0 that was also my first time

MTCobra 08-09-2014 08:40 PM

He's talking autocross. See you tomorrow.

Spoolin 08-09-2014 08:55 PM

I swung by and said hello to a few people (chumlee?) before leaving. I damaged my wheel on the Roval and it put an end to my weekend unless I can miraculously find a wheel tonight that won't cost me an arm and a leg.

Sorry to hear that. I'm intrigued what you hit?

While it was my first AutoX in the ZR1, that wasn't a killer lap. A prep'd Miata slaughtered me by 2 seconds.

KRich2587 08-09-2014 10:06 PM

i thought you were talking about roval my bad lol

A guy in front of me got out of control and went wide in a corner, over corrected and ended up in a service area and ran over a bunch of parts/tools and sprayed a few pieces on the track. Not sure what I ran over but between "it" and the wheel..."it" won.

Had to be a pretty solid piece to smash a wheel like that. Luckily aside from the tire losing some of its rim-guard, the tire is fine according to a Tire shop I stopped at. Just need to figure out how to fix the wheel or if it's toast.

zcarczar 08-10-2014 02:32 PM

Spoolin where you running in the purple group? I did the first round with blue and almost fell asleep we were going so slow so I had them bump me up to purple. The last round I was working towards catching the guy in the red Ferrari but he ended up getting black flagged before I could finish realing him in.

So far I'm impressed with the car, I might need to make some cooling system modifications as I was running pretty warm all day. I don't think we got the coolant water mixture right. If that doesn't fix it then I'll look into a different radiator and oil cooler setup.

Yeah, I was in the purple group. I happily started at the front in the second session and had an instructor with me to teach me the lines of the track since I'd never been there, by the time we caught up to the back of the pack I got stuck behind alot of slower guys pushing their cars hard and running a bit wide on the corners and bringing stuff onto the track. The guy in the Ferrari got behind me after I had caught up to lapped traffic and passed me without a wave by which annoyed me because I was waiting for the guy in front of me to give me a pass-by. Guess the guy doesn't understand no open passing. Lol

When I ran my car at buttonwillow my oil got hot (307) but coolant temps stuck around 255. Ambient that weekend was 107 so i wasn't too surprised. Yesterday I pulled the rain guard off the hood vent and the hottest the oil temps got was about 280 and coolant temps were 235's. Then again I really didn't push my car very hard for any full laps. First session was learning the track and following the people in front of me to see what they do and second session was going about 80% listening to the instructor.

Which car were you in? I didn't see any other Camaro's in my group, then again I didn't really see the whole field. That Banking freaks me out!! :sm0:

zcarczar 08-10-2014 05:23 PM

I was in the white Z/28. I know after the second session the kid in the red Ferrari got in trouble for open passing lol. I tried talking to them but they weren't too friendly.

I was hitting 145 at the end of the straight and pushing 125 through the big turn, car would've went faster but my balls weren't big enough lol. The course was a blast, only other courses I've run are spring mountain and Las Vegas motor speedway road course.

I don't like how hot the car runs though, my off road car is rock solid at 210 racing and it's a 700 hp 418 LS3 with not too big of radiator. I'll get it figured out, might have to get a custom radiator made and mess with the fan setting on HP tuners.

You should be able to get that welded and Re-Powder Coated. Looks not to bad. Rim isn't bent more than likely. Find a good Arc Welder and have them fix it. Some work to get it done but should cost less than a new rim.
