Auto Indexing Window Broken

I leave my windows open slightly because of the heat(approx. 1"). I came out, got in the car and my drivers window had closed itself. When I started the car, the info center told me to open and close my window. This went on for several days, and the indexing feature stopped working.. Not wanting to experience the joy of hoping my dealership could repair it without desimating my ride, I searched the threads and found one on a different problem, however the thread also explained how to reset the window module. With the key on roll the windowdown all the the way and hold the switch for 3 seconds, then roll up and hold switch for three seconds, repeat once more. I tried it and Tah Dah!!! Problem solved! If you have a similar problem try this. Thanx Camaro5 web site for saving me a trip to the dealer!!! :happyanim:

Glad that fixed your issue.

The steps to reset the windows is on page 1-16 of your owner's manual as well.

Quote:

To program each front window,
follow these steps:
1. With the ignition in ACC/
ACCESSORY, ON/RUN,
or when Retained Accessory
Power (RAP) is active, close
all doors.
2. Press and hold the power
window switch until the window
is fully open.
3. Pull the power window switch up
until the window is fully closed.
4. Continue holding the switch up
for approximately two seconds
after the window is completely
closed.
The window is now reprogrammed.
Repeat the process for the other
windows.

Yes. One touch up and one touch down. Push the button again in the same direction while the window is moving and it will stop where it's at.

They are also 2 position switches. Press lightly and the window will stop when you let off the switch, up or down. Press the switch all the way and they will express up or down. The sunroof switch is the same way.

Alright, I'm trying the manual method of reindexing the windows, but having problems.
It seems my driver side opens very little - about 1/8 inch or so, just barely clearing the molding, and the passenger side now opens about 3/4", a lot more than it used to.
I've tried following the procedure in the manual, opening the window all the way, then immediately closing it and holding up for 5 seconds after it's all the way up...
Tried with both half presses down and up, then full pressess on the switch down, then up. Tried with half press down, full pull up, and full press down and half press up.
Tried opening and closing the door before doing it. Tried it with key in ACC position, with key in full on position.

Is there some kind of trick to re-index the windows?

Try Pressing the switch all the way down. Once the window is down, continue holding switch for 2 seconds. Then roll window up, once up continue to hold switch 2 seconds. If this doesn't work, a trip to dealer may be necc.

If you just push it part the way down it will only move until you release the button, from what I have heard when you reindex your window do not use the one touch feature, it won't work that way.. upi should be able to feel a detent in the switch where you go from manual to the one touch feature.

Gen5SSRS you are my hero man, i have had this problem for 6 days now ur are a life saver it just worked for me, thanks for posting

Mine started out like all you guys, but after a month it just took on a mind of it's own, it started going up and down all by itself. No matter what I did it just opened and closed several times up and down when I opened the door. Then when I finally got it back up, several times it would not even move, I closed the door went in the house. When I came back out the next time, the window was wide open with no key in the ignition. It did this twice more and I got in it and drove it to the dealership. I can't leave it parked with windows wide open because it is in a carport. And I surely can't drive it to a mall and leave it with the window wide open. It has been at the dealership since December 13th. I still do not have a new window motor, which is what they say I need, or use of my new car. Car has 1,900 miles on it!

My Camaro is home again! Finally, 30 days! They replaced the window regulator/motor modul. So far it works perfect.:headbang::thumbup::headbang:

i keep getting this indexing error. i figured out how to fix it (by accident and then from reading here and the manual), but the car keeps having it happen every other day or so. that just doesn't seem right to me to keep happening that often. it's rather annoying to be honest, especially since it did one time after washing it and i didn't want to roll the window down and get streaks. the other time was yesterday when i was driving home from work in the pouring rain. i had to roll my window down and do this quick fix like 5 times before it fixed itself finally. i was pissed because rain was getting inside my car.

I know your frusustration all too well... That is exactly what mine did before it finally went crazy and lost it's brain and went up and down on it's own when I opened the door, then once I got it back up, turned off the key and went in the house it opened itself all by it's self with the key out of the ignition... They replaced the door motor regulator and it has seemed to fix the problem. However, it took 30 days to get the part and they would not even do that until it finally lost it's mind and started opening by itself. I drove it to the dealers and said I can not leave my car sit in my carport with the window open over night, rain, dew, and 10 stray cats... They gave me a rental Cobalt and I waited patiently... for 30 days to get my car back.
