GM bulletin: HVAC system reprogram / rear spoiler repair / engine harness inspection

4 Attachment(s)
As reported on Homepage.

GM has issued the following service bulletin for 1) HVAC system reprogram, 2) rear spoiler fastening, and 3) engine harness inspection/repair.

The reprogramming of the HVAC system is to prevent HVAC evaporator freeze-up after extended highway drives. The rear spoiler service is to fasten the (sometimes loose) nuts used to attach the rear spoiler to the trunk kid, and only applies to VINs A9126194 or lower. And the engine harness inspection ensures that the heater hose clamps are not touching the harness bracket.

Though these are not recalls or critical services, it's suggested that if/when your car is in for service or maintenance, to have these services performed (if applicable).

Does that qualify as a 'recall', or is it just a service bulletin? Gotta be careful when tossing the 'r' word around. People blow things way out of proportion.

The guy at the GM dealership said it not me :) However the paperwork does say bulletin

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOld news.

Glad you finally got it though.

Any pics? If this is old, I must've missed it somehow. I didn't notice anything unusual when I had my fuse box open :iono: Just curious what exactly this is...

The part he took his car in for is not old news. I was refering to the recall he referenced.

OT, I get a smile when I see your username. I'm just glad you got your ride back.

Guess I'll add this to my list of things to bring mine in for. My VIN falls into the range for the HVAC update and I might as well have them apply loctite to the spoiler nuts. So far, the only thing I planned to bring mine in for is the PDIM update so my USB port works right all the time.

cliffy 09-25-2009 11:19 AM

Well Ive got news for them, I've got a 29000 VIN range and those spoiler bolts were not very tight at all so I snugged them up a little

This is crazy! I just read this. My heater line actually got torn and I had to have my car towed in at about 1200 miles because of it. Radiator fluid was everywhere! Then I had to wait 1 month and a half on the heater line to come in. They never mentioned this.

Wow my dealer was right on it... I got my HVAC re done today when I came in to check out my trunk release.

Is the HVAC problem only for v8's?

No, all Camaro's that fall in the vin range. Check the first post for vin #

aldaran 09-25-2009 06:07 PM

So what is the VIN range? Is it number 1 through 136,648? Are they estimating that many to be produced with these issues?

ssmike 09-25-2009 06:32 PM

Just had mine done today. Was in for a passenger window problem so they took care of these also!

iflylow 09-25-2009 07:14 PM

My service mgr told me the HVAC reprogram may be flawed and could cause further damage. Anyone else heard something similar?

His suggestion was to wait a week or so for an updated program to come out.

domano 68 09-25-2009 07:16 PM

I assume there would not be a charge for this if I brought my car for these 3 issues only?

TIA!

GangGreen 09-25-2009 07:22 PM

My passenger window was acting up too, wouldnt work for a day. I also heard a rattling in the trunk deck where the spoiler is attached when i opened it the other day!!! Sounded like a loose nut in there.

Sounds like one of those "silent recalls". The ones where they don't notify you to take your car in but you ask they'll fix it. They usually don't send out recall notices unless it's safety related.

shakenbake 09-25-2009 10:59 PM

Got both of mine taken care of today... took it in for the loose spoiler and they took care of the HVAC at the same time

Well the bulletin was only released on Wednesday to dealers officially.

Schlok 09-26-2009 08:12 AM

Had 3 of my spoiler nuts fall off already, took it to the dealership and they looked at my crosseyed, so I put them back on myself, but another one fell off that is behind the carpet on the trunk lid...grrrrr

Bell040 09-26-2009 09:25 AM

6 spoiler nuts?

i thought there were only 4?

camarolt76 09-26-2009 11:15 AM

I already had to tighten up the nuts on my rear spoiler as well. I will need to get the engine harness position inspected and the HVAC reprogramed the next time mine is in for service.:chevy:
