Trickle Charger

Picked up a battery tender today to put the car to sleep for the winter:(..Where do you think the best hook up would be..in the truck right on the battery posts or use the positive post in the engine compartment:iono:..directions say to place the black clamp on the frame or other good ground point...any suggestions..I have never put a car up for the winter before... Winter Noob here.:iono:

Right on the battery, I use them on my 02' and my Harley.

I hook mine up under the hood. It is only a 1.25 amp charge. When the steady green light is on, you are good to go.

:confused0068: What kind did you buy?

I use one on my motorcycle - they work very well. We also use on on our trolling motor. Under the hood, there is a metal post on the driver's side to connect the ground to. In the trunk, there is the main ground for the car off the battery to hook the ground to.

its the battery tender

2SSjack 11-18-2009 04:13 PM

There is a small stud on the inner driver's side fender next to the air box. I put the neg. cable on that and my tender works just fine!!

Merc 11-18-2009 05:04 PM

Correct! The post next to air box is for jumping or charging.

I have one on my El Camino and so far it works great, before my battery would go dead in about a month if I didn;t remove the cable from the battery... now it stays fully charged.. and I don't loose all my radio settings...

ONE MORE THING!!! The Baterry Tender is a great product. However, the battery MUST be fully charged first!!! What will happen is the Tender will switch to a float mode when it senses 14volts or pretty close to that.

I use a CTEK US3300 smart battery charger, best money I ever spent. I haven't had a DBS in my Vette in over a year :)
I plan to use in the Camaro also!

I bought a "Schumacher Electric" brand at Auto Zone. $26.99. Works great but if I open my door with it attached I'll get a amber flashing light which means charge aborted. Not sure why. If I unplug it and plug it back in I'm good. I have mine in the trunk hooked straight up to the battery.

Did this tonight..

Thank you guys for the information. I was trying to figure out how to use my trickle charger in the trunk when I read this thread. I hooked up the charger under the hood using the positive terminal and I used the stud up near the front on the drivers side for the negative connection. My unit said to not hook to both the pos and neg, but only the pos and ground the negative to the body of the car.

Hands down the best charger I have owned. I had others that killed the battery by overcharging. CTEK is the same charger that comes with the Harley Davidson, Lamborghini, Porsche, BMW, etc. stamped on them to claim as their own.
