First oil change question

When does everyone recommend first oil change?
what does dealer say?

swizz 12-16-2009 09:41 AM

There's a sticky thread for this. I didn't follow it to the T. But pretty much get that crap out of there at 1500miles. I'd say use your own discretion but there is definitely a break in period for this car.

I just did mine this past weekend I did it at 2500 miles

Wild Bill 12-16-2009 09:47 AM

Did the first at 500 miles.

a poo na, ewet shels ne hoi jai?

Change all those bad boy fluids! :) My oil had lots of metal particles in it around 1500 miles. My Diff fluid was murky, the trans fluid looked ok...many threads on changing, torque values, amounts... ;)

Your DIC (if you have it) will tell you when your oil life is up. FYI - Chevrolet puts "special" break-in oil in all new vehicles, so I am waiting to change mine. I figure they know what they're doing with regards to keeping my engine performing to it's potential - I want to trust Chevrolet. ;-)

^ I was wondering the same thing. The DIC should tell you when to do that. The DIC in my TSX has been very dependable, and I am sure the Chevy did it right in the Camaros too.

2010 SSRS 12-16-2009 10:07 AM

500 miles

patm 12-16-2009 10:11 AM

Dealer said they put an additive in the oil and you should change it at 3000 miles. There is something in it to break in the engine.

GQ4Life 12-16-2009 10:57 AM

Im at 1350 miles.. guess I'll change at 1500miles.. change all the fluids, oil, tranny and diff?

OUR72GTO 12-16-2009 12:03 PM

It's all in the owners manual you paid for.

67 Convertible 12-16-2009 12:09 PM

I changed mine at 1,400 and again at 2,900. With synthetic I'll go every 5,000 or so from now on, no matter what the DIC says.

2SSRS_2010 12-16-2009 12:25 PM

800 miles (changed by dealer)

dragrcr 12-16-2009 01:01 PM

Did mine for the first time at 4700 miles. Plan on doing it every 5000 or so. Any sooner is a waste of money. Oil life monitor still said 54% remaining but I think the manual says 6000 max regardless.

shad2009 12-16-2009 01:20 PM

my parents should read this lol, they didn't get their first change on their traverse till 11,800 miles...yea, i was shocked too, and it only got changed because i sed something...almost at 20k miles and they haven't had a second change...and my stepdad sez i can't take care of a camaro:facepalm:HA!!!

Hoddi 12-16-2009 02:35 PM

First: 500
Second: 5,000

glambert1 12-16-2009 02:38 PM

oil you can change early but tranny fluid , I dont think that should be changed isnt that designed to go a very long time now like I mean really long ,

It doesn't. Just some people's preference. Everybody has their own opinion. I've never done anything special and I've never had an engine issue with any car that I've ever owned, foreign or domestic.

Some of these guys drove off from the dealer with the gas pedal mashed to the floor and haven't let up since :D

They change the oil at 500 miles and what is left of the tires at 1000 miles :headbang:

TooCool5 12-16-2009 04:41 PM

Everyone has their own formula for oil changing. I did mine at 2200 miles.
Next will be @ 5-6k miles as I am no a high miles driver.

:thumbsup:Bingo. I plan to break mine in hard, so that'll hold true in my case.

Moriartii 12-16-2009 05:47 PM

Change the oil the first time and see the crap that is in it. $60 for a do it your self oil change wont be such a big deal and is cheap insurance once you see what is left in your oil bucket especially when you just paid over 25K for your car.

And special break in additive? So this is some even more lubricious and viscous "stuff" to make your engine break in? Sounds like phoey to me.
Cheers
K

OUR72GTO 12-16-2009 07:02 PM

What crap. ? I did my own at 3000 miles and put it through a coffee filter. Nothing!

Then sent it out for analysis ...............still nothing. "Detected " silicone at low levels.

Unless you are really mashing the gears, changing the others is a waste and not very green.
