Camaro Z28 prototype production ramping up? Z/28 driveshafts ordered by GM!

Take this info for what its worth but I work with suppliers in the auto industry and deal with Camaro's driveshaft manufacturer. They just recently got an order from GM for more than a dozen driveshafts specifically for a Z/28 version of the Camaro. I was told the expected delivery date to GM was by the 3rd week of March and he thinks production will start in 2011. I've worked with the contact for years and believe what this person says because he's got no reason to lie to me and he stated this as fact. Sounds to me like GM is ramping up production of Camaro Z28 test cars! At the very least this tells me that a Z28 is definitely in the works and already under testing

The writing's on the wall! It's coming!

MAYH3M 03-11-2010 03:49 PM

Sounds good to me. Is a 2 Piece driveshaft currently being used on the 5th Gen SS?

codo 03-11-2010 04:09 PM

Yes, hurry up for gods sake, its bad enough they went ahead and rebirthed the Camaro without a Z28 in the lineup, its gotta come soon!

How does one know it's a Z28 driveshaft?

D1BADZ 03-11-2010 04:17 PM

That means it will have more power than the SS and they need a specific Drive Shaft that will fit the Z/28 and support it's power out put.

its 2007 all over again!

TooCool5 03-11-2010 04:45 PM

Motor Trend says Z28 production will start late in 2011.

It's guaranteed to have more power. I think that much can be safely assumed as fact. GM is surely not working on another Camaro version just to have the same or less power than the SS. Camaro is missing a true rival to the Mustang GT500, so you can bet the Z28 will at *least match* that car in power. :headbang:

Q's 91z28 03-11-2010 05:20 PM

YES!!!!!!!! This is what my wife gets for making me wait on getting a 2SS....Now I'll have to pay more for a Z28 :happyanim:

HOPEFULLY GM will come out with a WILD 302 again now that would be cool S/ced or not
imagine a 302 rated at 4400 rpm that can turn to 7500 and make like 500 or more horse up there... or a lsa would be nice

See CTS-V for a hint

acowherd 03-11-2010 06:27 PM

CTS-v is a great car. I had an 06 v and it was fun. The new cts-v stickers for what 70k??? A Z/28 with an lsa motor in it would be nice, but for the money it would cost???? If I was going to pay anything over 50k for a camaro... i would not do it. At that price point i would be a lot more inclined to get a corvette.

Times have changed. People should stop assuming the SS is the donkey's balls. GM is after $$$ on the Z/28, and the easy target is the GT500. End of story.
