Nearly 3,000 Camaros ordered in the first three days

Don't know if this was posted or not, but...WOW.

Quote:

Nearly 3,000 people stepped up for a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro during the first three days since General Motors opened up the order bank.

And those people will be waiting at least four months before they get a car, as production isn't scheduled to start until February. Those who have placed an order will get updates from GM, including notification of the target production week for their car.

GM will build the Camaro at its Oshawa, Ontario, assembly plant.

Also, the automaker has yet to start taking orders for convertibles. The 2,944 sold orders taken since Monday are all coupes.

There might be another large group of orders submitted this weekend, when many people will have the time to visit a dealership.

GM opened up the order window earlier than it typically does for a new car because of the pent-up demand for the new Camaro, a GM spokesman said.

More than 600,000 people were "hand raisers" who had given GM an e-mail address in order to be notified about Camaro news.

Hmmm that is 3/4 Camaro for every dealer there is.

Basing that off the fact that i believe there are 4,000 dealerships.

wightfoxx 10-16-2008 08:45 PM

My dealer got only 1!
ME!
so I'm the only order as of now, he has over 12 more people wanting to order now. They are a very small dealer, but a very good one.....

franknbeans 10-16-2008 08:49 PM

My dealer only got 2 and I am nuber one.

ZZcamaro 10-16-2008 08:52 PM

Hmmm high demand!! I would build it sooner...but that was just me, and nothing ever goes my way.

GothamCamaro 10-16-2008 09:04 PM

Well GM, look what you did... you cracked the door of Heaven and all are pouring in to grab their Camaros. Bravo...:clap:

ezlock83 10-16-2008 09:08 PM

I am wondering now that gm knows the initial demand if they will start production early?

blackZbandit 10-16-2008 09:14 PM

This is soooooo beautiful to hear! I was heartbroken when they stopped production in 2002; I was 19, 20 years old and feared that my dream of buying a brand new Camaro would never come true, but here it is, even in these bleakest of times, not even fully born yet but ALIVE AND KICKIN ASS!!

Oh if only...

:chevy:

Sierra 10-17-2008 10:18 AM

I dont think they can start production earlier and still call it a 2010.

Rizzo 10-17-2008 11:28 AM

My dealer got 27, but they are unsure how it was going to be distributed over time.

Hylton 10-17-2008 11:31 AM

I'd be willing to take a 2009 car. One of what - 2,000?

Camaro_Corvette 10-17-2008 11:36 AM

Yes! Go :chevy:

Yeah, I think you were a few off this time.:D But this is one time that I am glad you are wrong.

I would love to see GM start production earlier, but I don't think that it is possible. They are probably still lining-up suppliers and establishing tooling. I read somewhere that the company that was going to make the seats went out of business, causing GM to source a new primary supplier.

Rallyman6 10-17-2008 11:47 AM

We were allocated only four and I was the only one to leave a deposit and place an order. :chevy:

Of course they can/will start production early. Listen CLOSELY to the podcast on CZ28.

These dates, including start of production, appear to be worst case scenario, which is what I would have expected. I would guess that by Feb 16th, not only will production have started, but that will be the day the first few hundred, if not first couple thousand, are loaded on semis and pulling out of the Oshawa plant on their way to delivery at a dealer near you... my opinion only.

Rogue Leader 10-17-2008 11:51 AM

I dont want them to rush to push up production. Id ratehr them stay on schedule, take their time, and do it right the first time. And as you can see from my sig, I'm hurting for a car!

Yeah, I'm in!!!!

TAG UR IT 10-17-2008 12:03 PM

We are going to get a lot more after the weekend when people have a chance to get into their dealers. Mine is going in on Monday...and just wait till you hear who I'm ordering it from...:D :D :D :D :D

And, pretty cool that GM opened the doors, huh? I'd bet...out of all the orders placed, 80% have probably been SS's. Kind of nice for GM to do this for us enthusiasts.....who else knows about the ordering but us enthusiasts!?!?!

96CAMaro 10-17-2008 12:29 PM

Nice! Now GM only need to sell 97,056 (100,000-2,944) units to hit their projected amount. The thing that I am most excited about, and call me crazy if this is nuts, is the potential sales this will take away from the Mustang. :happyanim:

I wonder what kind of effect this will have for the rest of the years production. I would imagine that 80% will be V6's after they get our cars done.

To quote page 12 in the Workbook:

"SS MODEL FOCUS

Core Camaro Enthusiasts will be the target for the
SS model. These customers are very loyal to Camaro,
love the Chevy brand and the heritage associated with
Camaro. They will seek out Camaro. "

They sure as heck got that one right.....

All they need to do is have each dealer sell 1 Camaro a week to get 200,000 sales. What do you think? Do-able?

SilverTurtle 10-17-2008 12:59 PM

I honestly had told TAG just yesterday that I thought they had over 2000 orders in already, and looky here... I was right :D

I'm happy to see the success of this car... and can only imagine if they would have had a blue offering on the SS how many more they would have gotten.
