As far as car shows, yes many people put vehicles in shows that they had no hand in restoring or building. I have friends that can't turn a wrench but they will pay someone to fix up there car, or just buy it already finished.

I will say it does mean a bit more to be the one that primarily restored a vehicle. I have a 67 Firebird that I restored about 15 years ago. When I take it to shows I can speak to the hard work put into the restoration.
