Something I noticed...XM satellite radio

The other day I was showing someone pictures of the new camaro at its website chevy.com/performance and I noticed in one of the pics (at the bottom of the home page) of the interior that there was an xm satellite radio button. This may be old news, but it makes me a little more excited that there may be satellite radio in the new camaro.

I gotta be honest, I hope they do something much more practical with the production controls. They look...silly in the concept

AFSNightrod 05-31-2007 06:03 PM

Yeah it offers absolutely no room for aftermarket support the way it is set up now. Plus it looks like a nightmare if anything breaks or burns out. I hope it has a unique look, but is a LOT more practical and easy to maintain/upgrade than it is now.

Not that it's a big deal to me really, but have you noticed that a lot of other vehicles are coming out with radio's that are integrated in such a way that there's no possible way anything aftermarket could replace it?

It's not exclusive to the Camaro Concept.

SoFlaZ 05-31-2007 08:07 PM

Back to the satelite radio, I think that would be awesome if the car came with it and a few years subscription. I have "Built my own car" on many car sites and some come with the sat radio and a subscription. I am 100% confident that the radio and a/c controls will be more user friendly because we still have to remember its only a concept and not the production car even though its supposed to be 90% the same. I think the 10% change will be the radio and a/c along with the speedo and tach revised a little. And i also hope the radio is not permenant or nearly impossible to get out because it is very possible i may put in an aftermarket one if stock doesnt sound that great.

Moose 05-31-2007 08:49 PM

As for satellite radio, my bet is, it will be offered.

As for the radio/controls in the concept, it's just a "concept car design". The production version will be much closer to what we're accustomed to. ;)

AFSNightrod 06-01-2007 06:09 AM

Yeah pretty much anything out nowadays can be had with sattelite radio. I plan on getting the premium sound system, whatever that may be. I am just thinking from a sales point of view. Designing stereos that are basically inpossible to replace would put a serious hurt on the car audio industry. Just think 30 years down the road when we are trying to do a concours restoration or a place like Unique Performance or West Coast Customs is trying to build a custom car. They would have to fabricate everything for custom audio, which would drive costs up quite a bit. Granted this doesn't factor in technological advances or if we will even be allowed to drive cars in 30 years, but my point is. It hurts everyone unless you can pus some serious factory sound in these cars via partnerships with the leading audio companies. Right now this isn't the case. most are mid-level companies (monsoon, bose car audio) with the exception of Rockford Fosgate and Kicker that I know of. If I am wrong please correct me.

Hopefully it will be an option and can be deleted from a package - satellite radio isn't for me :D

MerF 06-01-2007 09:38 AM

Now HD radio is a whole nother bag of worms, that should definitely be standard by the production timeframe.

JWz28 06-01-2007 10:48 AM

I want an integrated 20 gig hard drive so I can load all of the music I want to hear and play it when I want to hear it.

JWz28.

AFSNightrod 06-02-2007 04:47 AM

An integrated harddrive would be great. I would need a bigger one though, like 200GB. Then I can watch porn on my navigation screen :bellyroll:! Seriously. I need a huge harddrive to store all my music. If that's not possible, an accesory jack for my Ipod will do.

Hopefully this beast will have enough HP that you'll need to keep both hands on the wheel.

People may not want to remove the Stereo in the new Camaro if the advice from an impromptu pole is taken....

He was probably referring to this post :http://camaro5.com/forums/showpost.p...01&postcount=3

Boston Acoustics would be awesome as long as I can replace the headunit without messing with the factory amp and speakers.

Satellite radio wouldn’t be a bad option as long as they don’t put one of those big ass ugly antennas on the roof so when you look at the car you can’t help but focus on anything else but the antenna. If not I would be happy with just a jack for my ipod and HD radio.

Sero 11-20-2007 08:52 AM

I hope they try and incorporate something like drivesoft, or the new Micro$oft Sync. A radio with an HDD would be fine for me, XM or Sirius would be fine too, as like MJA said, no ugly ass antennae on it.

swazworth 11-20-2007 09:57 AM

if the camaro does have satellite i really hope they (xm & sirius) have there merger done by the time it comes out. or you will have to replace it. the ones out now will not work with both services. meaning if it has xm your stuck with it, no sirius for you, after the merge you the the units that come out will read both signals.

DGthe3 11-20-2007 10:24 AM

Well . . . bumble bee had SM satalite radio, perhaps thats a clue.

But I don't really want satalite radio. There are enough good free stations near me that I don't need to pay for the same service. Plus so long as it has CD/MP3 I'll have all that I need

stovt001 11-20-2007 10:38 AM

I definitely want satellite radio. In LA, there are absolutely no open radio stations, so it is very, very hard to use my FM transmitter for my ipod. All of the radio stations are 70% Mexican (why would anyone need that many????), 20% rap/hip-hop, and 10% annoying sound clips, annoying hosts talking about some stupid middle school boys locker room subject, and a dash of the same songs played over and over again. We had a really good classical station, but they took that off.

Oh and satellite radio antennae do not go on the roof. They are mounted inside the windshield, usually around the mirror.

$˘'s 5th Gen 11-20-2007 11:00 AM

^^^ Not true on my Envoy. I have both XM Satellite and Onstar and I have 2 anttenas. The Onstar anttena is the one that sticks up 2 or 3 inches on the roof. the XM is a 2x2x2 block/square on the roof.
I also do not want an anttena on the roof but do want satellite radio and HD radio. Houston has crap for rock stations and the xm comedy is FUNNY!!!:sm0:

stovt001 11-20-2007 11:51 AM

That's funny, every factor setup I've seen for satellite radio has a triangular block located inside the windshield right around the mirror, which I felt was a great setup. Hmm...
