Oil certainly should be changed, but dirty oil won't cause noise. You may have a bearing going bad though.

Did you use new OEM driveshaft bolts (just the ones you removed) when you went back together with it? If not, you need to get some and replace them. They are torque-to-yield bolts, and not reusable....

I have higher oil pressure with the Melling pump, so I use the UPF48R filter. For a stock vehicle that isn't being raced every weekend, the plain old PF48 filter is just fine.
