Yeah the volume on the ipod is the first thing I thought of too but it just says "accessory connected" no way to adjust. I could try turning it down and then plugging it in. Also mine doesn't crackle...

I just ordered some with 12 Led's all on one flat square board. I haven't installed it yet. It should have it in the next few days. Comes with adapters for all different types of bulbs so should work...
