Pushrods dont just bend themselves with no other damage. You likely have a trashed lifter and cam lobe at the very least. Gotta inspect the rocker and spring too.

And you've already got a .84 versus .74 fifth gear in an SS, you won't get much closer to that; I don't think there's even a gear for these transmissions thats closer than that.
