The problem with doing only the isolator is that it doesn't resolve the issue of a dry bearing.

It was my understanding that the coupler just makes noise and what really damages the SC is the bearing with inadequate lubricant. Maybe the breakdown of the coupler decreases the life of the bearing.

Nice idea. I used a craftsman air compressor oil/water separator, which was a really cheap way to go. It has been working fine.
