I used the wedge tool and you definitely have to remove the SC pulley and belt. Make sure the belt is properly seated or it will get shredded.

I haven't heard one in person, but every clip I've heard of that cam lopes pretty hard even with a higher idle. Curious to know what's your idle set at and what's the vacuum kPa at warm idle?

Personally I would prefer pads with more bite than the OEM pads that aren't track pads, but I don't if they exist (haven't done much research).
