Its usually only a problem in parking lots. Cruising at 30mph is fine in 3rd about 1900rpm, but putting it in 4th will get bucking as the rpm drops to 11-1200.

For just $50, its a no-brainer that you should go with the 8660 material. Only for the longevity preventing the need to go back in a year sooner and replace the cam made with a softer alloy.

Mine does this due to to OnStar module as well. Replaced the OnStar battery several times and it'll die again and then the module begins leaching from the main battery. I'm betting on a bad ground...
