Normal. I have seen mine spike to that high of a temperature in traffic. then the fans kick on and everything cools off and goes back to normal. Nothing to worry about.

The form die you speak of is known as a draw die.

The engine cover can be installed without the oil tube extender, however having the extender does help. I did it both ways, but I agree with Ruby, the cover just holds in the heat and if you paint...
