I've been thinking alone similar lines, but

How about having them I stall that blank blade in place of my current keyed one? At least it wouldn't be empty and look broken. I'm sure they can be had as blanks.

My 2010 had a black one and there was a DIY on getting them out and painting them if you look. The RS option switched to painted from the factory in 2012 or so.

Always hard to judge in a photo but as a body man that really looks like the clear is delaminating from the color or an original coat of clear underneath. Are you aware of any repairs?
