It works the exact same way as the wheel mounted buttons.

The installation is the same as my other shifters except your using an oem knob. You can find them in the first post in the thread below....

It sounds like it could be a short or faulty ground in the radio harness. Could be in the radio as well. Often problems with circuit boards are affected by temperature

The pistol grip tapshifters do not have linelock switches although I have done the shifter with one switch for line lock(pictured below)

I also have stock shifters with line lock switches added....
