Pop out the switch (you dont need a special tool just use youre nails on one side).

Just leave it in the off position and turn them on manually when you need to.

This is just what I was looking for, I for one hate automatic lights. When its dark out, I'll turn the lights on, just like I've always done in my '91 and '95. I went the extra step and removed the spring instead of cutting it, this way, I can re-install it if I ever wanted to for some reason. Thanks for sharing this method!
