Getting a car cover for the winter is definitely a good idea. The main reasons you want it is to protect the paint from sun-fading and from water and snow freezing in all the crevices. As long as the cover is reasonable thick and opaque it should be UV resistant, and they all should be waterproof. Any brand will be fine, maybe see if you can get some of the GM ones from your dealer. They probably even have ones that are yellow with black stripes.
