Talking General Motors of Canada opening factory doors to the public!

General Motors of Canada will open the doors of its factories in Oshawa, St. Catharines and Ingersoll, Ontario to the public before the end of 2011.

No specific dates have been announced yet, but the open houses are part of a broader initiative by GM in the United States to give the public, "the opportunity to learn more about the company's people, products and plants."

Sounds to us like GM wants to prove all that public money they were leant went to good use. Said Kevin Williams, GM Canada’s president and managing director: “These open houses are our way of showing our appreciation for the support we received and for the communities in which we operate.”

Since July 2009, GM Canada has announced over $1 billion dollars in investments in its plants. Oshawa and CAMI have recalled all laid-off production employees and hired 400 new employees. The St. Catharines facility will build a new transmission in 2012 and has a new engine planned for 2013.

November 18, 2010 (Oshawa, ON) - General Motors of Canada’s manufacturing locations in Oshawa, St. Catharines and Ingersoll, Ontario will each host an open house event by the end of 2011 as part of a broader GM initiative in the United States. Each GM plant location will choose a date for their facility and invite community members to attend to learn more about the people, the products and the manufacturing processes used to deliver the highest possible quality.
“Thanks to the hard work of the local teams, as well as the support we have received from various stakeholder groups, we have very strong manufacturing operations in Canada that employ thousands of people,” said Kevin Williams, GM Canada’s president and managing director. “These open houses are our way of showing our appreciation for the support we received and for the communities in which we operate.”
“The hard work and dedication of our CAW membership has been a key contributor to today’s milestone at General Motors,” said Ken Lewenza, President Canadian Auto Workers. “We are pleased to be able to showcase our highly skilled workforce and GM’s top quality manufacturing facilities in Canada.”
Since July 2009, GM Canada has announced investments of over $1 billion dollars in its Canadian plant facilities that will result in over 2,800 jobs when fully implemented. Already, GM’s Oshawa and CAMI plants have recalled all laid off production employees and hired over 400 new employees to support strong customer demand for the Chevrolet Camaro and Equinox, and the GMC Terrain and to ready for production of new models – great news for these employees, their families and communities.
