You are correct this system is not a real ram air, and this is why New Era has the shield with the kit as a restrictor/protector, because at highway speeds the air was almost building pressure in the intake before the throttle body causing bucking while cruising, which is why we say to take it out at the track only. However, this is the case on all model year Camaro SS's, not just 2012-13. The New Era system does not heat soak below 45 mph at all, it will only heat soak at a stand still similar to most intakes.
when you say take it out, you are referring to the restrictor, correct? so with the protector in, normal driving conditions should be acheived, whereas the removal of the protector will optimize your air intake for the drag strip? just trying to make sure I understand, as I believe I will be ordering one of these very soon.
