Your power of observation is remarkable!
Has everyone not agreed the 1LE package on an SS is impressive?
You simply asked to see a video Boss 302 or GT500 running a 2:58 at VIR, so I provided a one for you.
Owning both a 2013 ZL1 and a 2013 GT500, I agree with everyone that says the Z is easier to drive quickly around a track/curvy road than the GT500 is. The GT500 is not a car you jump into for two or three laps around the track and put down a time the car is capable of in stock trim. I imagine there are/will be even better times from a 1LE-equipped SS than what MT was able to get if the driver has a lot of seat time in it on the same track.
Road racing and drag racing have one thing in common; it usually boils down to who's driving as to what kind of performance one is able to get out of a machine. I've seen stock 2013 ZL1's and GT500's running 13 second quarters on the same day as others were in the low-12's/high-11's. Likewise, I've seen both cars lapped by cars without MRC and with less horsepower at Road America.
The hype is there to get someone to buy a car. Nothing more, nothing less.
