I've had various issues with FedEx, from shipments disappearing to them coming damaged like this one.
Do you have pictures of the damage? You should take pictures for sure, you have a suit on your hand, I would get to it.
Is the battery physically damaged?
I ALWAYS ship UPS for things that are important to me or the buyer. Also, I use USPS with tracking (always get tracking or they lose stuff) for little things that I'm not as worried about.
