OK, on the dyno today a GM 3.6L came in with 87 octane. Here is the dyno run showing the detonation and power loss:
And after bringing it up to 93 octane:
I know were all just imagining this and all the years in R&D we have done on the 3.6 is meaningless, but somehow the dyno is making this up as well. Quite the conspiracy.
What did surprise me was peak HP was near the same, only in the lower RPM range where lugging the engine creating the most detonation is where it is night and day.
