Double Action means as You run the trigger back, you COCK the hammer and at the back of the trigger pull the hammer falls. On a revolver you are rotating the cylinder as well, bringing a fresh ctg up to align with the barrel.
Single Action , like a Colt 1911 or Browning Highpower would have the hammer already back and cocked with the safety engaged to block the trigger. Flick off the safety, pull the trigger. There are also SA revolvers like Colt Single Action Army's and Ruger Blackhawks. You cock the hammer, the cylinder rotates, bringing up a new round, you pull the trigger and it fires. This must be done each time with a SA revolver.
