The muffler thing is a joke... just the typical saleman's pitch to convice you that your car is junk/worthess and their car is worth all the marbles. I absolutely hate dealing on new cars, as this is always the way they seem to play the game. If I had 40 grand to play with, I'd take TWO clean used SS's like yours over a new 1LE any day. I wish I could find a car like yours for 20 grand... I believe I would buy it.
