Methanol (the kind that's poisonous) = corrosive, and requires the mixture to be FAR richer than ethanol (and gasoline). Plus, it requires the car to be thoroughly warmed up in order to run. I have run meth injection in the past, but I'm purely talking about using methanol as a fuel here.

Ethanol (the kind we drink) = mildly corrosive and does not play well with "old" rubber (not sure which decade they changed over to the tougher kind). They add gasoline to de-nature it (to keep crazy people from drinking from the gas pumps!) and add even more gas in the winter to help cold starts.
