Unless it was added as standard on the 2011's the steering wheel controls are not standard equipment. the only ones I have on the wheel are for the cruise control..
I didn't drive mine in the snow last winter (We also Have an HHR) But I remember seeing a video posted on here about a camaro driving in the snow, and I believe it was a V6.. I will see if I can find it again.
I found the video on U-Tube, and it was even a 1LT or maybe a 2LT they were driving, Check it out.
